Hi guys

Im moving to a new complex in about two weeks. One of my friends also has a house in the same complex.

He's house is about 100meters away form mine (at most... may be be a lot less.).

Is there some way we can setup a stable and decent wireless connection between the two houses that wont cost an arm and a leg?

Thanks....

Directional antennae... same setup as what you'd use in the WUG... the rest, normal WLAN.

Line of sight is the big question.
Have you got that ??

Wifi dongle on an extension USB cord should work ,i am surmising he has a router with Wifi .

Bridge network with these. I use it for same setup. And alot of guides on google if you want to bridge. These are bulletproof been running 3years.

I almost agree, but I would go with the MIMO 5ghz option, a bit more expensive, but it won't pick up as much inteference. I would assume that most homes in that area have 2.4ghz wifi routers. Save a bit of headache and go 5ghz.

As for usb dongles, etc, you can do that but your speeds and reliability will be really crappy. With two ubiquity devices you will have a solid, reliable, low latency link.

Yip agreed! The Ubiquiti Nanostation M5 are rock solid, and fast! You will also be able to stream video without any hassles. Def worth the little bit extra in price.

Ubiquiti is definitely your answer.

+1

The Nano Station works very well if you got R700 for each station, i got the same setup with a mate... Im using the NanoStation M5, 150Mbps+ it works on hte 5Ghz range and you can pump the range upto 5 miles (so they claim) but i get full throughput even at 245m between them!
