Located in Pietermaritzburg though. And I see today one of the Level 32 Gym hoggers has two Tyranitars already :wtf:

What other pokemon were in the area when you found it

Remembered where we caught it and the stop where it was normally spawns magicarp, dratini, golduck etc.

Caught a Quilfish there this afternoon

what Biome was the Lavitar in?

I caught 3 Larvitars in the Brooklyn/Groenkloof areas this week. 2 of them by the blue crane restaurant/park and then the other one close to Groenkloof hospital

Damn, good to know PTA is a lot closer than Pietermaritzburg, might need to check it out if i do not get lucky with the eggs, but still 50Km, so will need a good excuse to go though . You guys should update on silph road to help the cause

the Brooklyn area in question is a nest, but it is currently listed as Drowzy.

I drove though the area last week we stopped there and caught a few omnimite and Maril.
I have also in the past caugth a Dratini there.

so as far as the Blue crane/Bird sanctuary goes in terms of Biome it is interesting.
you might find magicarp
you might find Slowpoke (it was a nest at one stage)
you might find OMnimite
you might find Kabuto
you might find poliwhirl
you might find Maril

you will find Sandshrew
you will find Ekans
you will find Geodude
you will find Meowth
you will find SNowbull
you will find Ponytah
you will find growlith
you will find Houndoom
you will find pidgey


so that is one are that is in Desert Biome (sandshrew), City Biome (pidgey/ratata) and "river" Biome (carp/Poli/craby)
but it also has uncommon spawns from the "seaside" or "pier" Biome (dratini,Slowpoke)

so in general you can find almost anything there outside of grass types.
and this I have found to be true for everything from Magnolia del all the way along the river though the bird sanctuary to Brooklyn mall

it is the only area I have encountered that is like that, everywhere else, it is basically just one Biome, maybe two.
like at work for me is 100% desert ass is home.

Flora farm/newscafe in boksburg is grass + water.

Biomes is still the most interesting thing in pokemon go for me. its something you can get a feel for and then still be suprised.

I am actually wondering about this biome thing myself, I have been watching a lot of trainer tips lately and he talks about it a lot. But he did mention that if you go outside the "usual" biome area ie when there are no more sightings or pokestops and throw a incense you will pull from the entire pool of the game, which seems very interesting. I actually wonder whether the developers were not lazy with SA and did not specify any form of biome, as I see the following spawns in my area

Slowpoke
OMnimite sometimes
Kabuto sometimes
poliwhirl
a lot of Maril
a lot of goldeen
a lot of Sandshrew
a lot of Ekans
a lot of zubat

a lot of Meowth

a lot of chikorita

caterpie
a lot of paras
oddish
a lot of bellsprout
a lot of rattata
random dratini
a lot of murkrow
a lot of natu
a lot of manky
a lot of nidoran M/F

So all and all very confusing, don't know whether its a grass/desert/water/city or whatever biome
I have actually seen more dragonite in my area than dratini... mean what the...

Dratini and Dragonite, I've only ever seen 2 Dratini that I've caught...no Dragonite at all. And I'm in the Flora Farm area...

so as weird as this is, go to the Bird park mentioned above, and spend a day there.

alternatively, try making time to go to Brightwater commons.

Dratini seen 5 caught 5.
Dragonite seen 5 caught 1.

2 dratini were caught at the bird park, and the others were at Brightwater. the dratini were months appart at the Bird park, but at Brightwater they were on the same day. I dont know if they still spawn so often, but Brightwater

I can't find a gym to join or take over. All at 10...mostly the same team as me.

Its possible they are baiting people to take the gym, some players do this to "power level", i have a gym nearby me that is used in such a way, happens specifically too gyms with a high throughput of feet

Don't know whether I should cry or congratulated you...But hey, i've noted a similar trend (not the same team though) which are controlled mostly by the same players

sometimes I take down gyms and leave them grey, or put a cp 10 poke in, if I suspect the people are spoofing to get to the gym.

and this weekend was good for gym turnover. there are 8 gyms in walking distance from our house.

people using two accounts have come in and knocked people out of them only to prestiege and place their own accounts in there. my wife got knocked out of all of these that were level 10 mind you because she was lower than me.

all of these got taken out on friday, and when we got home they were all blue again. so we leveled them and put her in them.

now her and I are both on claim for 10 gyms every 21 hours mission. she was on 6 gyms for about a month now.

So if I assume correctly your are team mystic? I should hang more in PTA then, my area seems to have some sort of instinct/valor accord where they only target mystic gyms and leave each other alone....collusion I tell ya

correct I am mystic.

level 32. but I have not done a lucky egg evolution since November. waiting for my wife to catch up.

and the areas where I am are generally pretty stable.
Centurion was a war zone. gyms changing over all the time, now they are solidly blue. all level 10.
Moreletta PArk is also blue level 10 gyms as far as the eye can see.

Haven't played in a while - reinstalled and at Rosebank it's mostly just high level blue gyms

There doesn't seem to be much activity though. Took down a lvl 8 blue gym several hours ago and now it's just sitting at lvl 2. No one training up or taking it down (Or they are and just failing to burn through Blissey's health within the timer). May have to go train it up myself so someone else can join.

is anyone here still having issues with taking down blissy?

TrainerTips did a fantastic video on taking out a blissy.

turns out, Rhydon/Golem is the best options for both time and potions.


also if you take down an enemy gym and put 2 or 3 blissies in there, you are asking for it to stay that level, no one is going to beat it for 100 prestiege to add it it.

I would take on 3 3000CP rhydons/Tyranitar/Dragonite/Gyarados before I even looked at prestieging 3 blissies.
