In my opinion the game is a bit bust at this stage. I've personally stopped playing apart from when the eldest kidlet remembers the game exists and wants to spin a pokestop, fight a gym or catch a pony.

Bots are still running rampant, are freely available and relatively easy to setup. On some of them you can do level 1-20 in about an hour after which they simply start sniping the rarest pokemon looking for high IV.

The decrease to success rates on throws also peaves me as it effectively is trying to force you to spend money on the game while things like tracking is removed because they can't get it working. I've spent hours trying to find certain creatures on the tracker (before it was removed) only to have tons of stuff not on the tracker appear.

So yeah, until they add something decent like trading or make it worthwhile to catch the rare or difficult pokemon its a bit pointless in my opinion. As I've said before, why go after a low CP dragonite if you can spend all your time catching pidgeys/weedles? The pidgeys/weedels at least allow you to evolve in bulk and level up wheres as the rare pokemon is 100xp and some candy you keep until you find a decent one. You'll have better luck just getting Dratini's until you get a decent CP one to evolve.

No wait I got it wrong.

I see there's 147 listed in my Pokedex and mine shows Caught 65, Seen 68.

Kanto shows 65/100.

Now I'm even more confused. How many different Pokemon are there?

Question is for everyone else as well.

I've only got 68 / 250.

But I transfer a lot, and often immediately after catching a pokemon.

Looks like I've caught 639 total since I started.

there are 151 different pokemon.
BUT
we cannot catch Dito, ZapDos, Moltres, Articuno, Mew and MewTwo.
so the max we can get in the pokedex (or the Kanto medal) is 145

the number when you go into your pokemon tab is how many pokemon out of 250 you can have with you at one time.
you can transfer pokemon away as I soon will with Pincir if Trading does not come soon ans someone wants Pincir. (will trade Pincir for Pidgey at this stage)

does that make more sense now?

Yeah it does. Thanks Baxteen!

So basically I'm 65/145. Not too shabby considering limited weekend runs in Pmb are my main source.

I used a site called pokeAdvisor to get fun stats.

unfortunately it is no longer working because Niantic does not want us to enjoy this game at all.

the last stats I can still access is from BEFORE dinner at Emperors palace and BEFORE my second evolution spree where I got a few new pokemon (5 in fact)

Caught 1862 (prob another 100 or so since then)
encountered 2230 (again prob another 100 or so more since then)
capture rate of 83% (dont think this will change, only about 5 pokemon ran from me since I could log in last)
pokeballs thrown 5719

it was a nice site, and really useful to figure out what the IV's of your pokemon were so you could only evolve the best. but alas, now I will have to do it the manual way.

What is IV?

DISCLAIMER I AM ABOUT TO NERD OUT REAL HARD EXPLAINING THIS. WATCH THE VIDEO FOR A BETTER EXPLANATION, OR SIMPLY IGNORE IF YOU FEEL LIKE IT, VERY FEW PEOPLE WILL CARE ABOUT THIS.

individual value.

Every pokemon has 3 stats. Attack, Defence and Stamina. all pokemon of the same name will have the same base value. all Bulbasour will have the same Base attack, Base defence and Base Stamina.
then there is a value out of 15 that is added on an pokemon for each stat.
a pokemon with 15/15/15 will be about 20% better than a pokemon with 0/0/0 for the IV's

so how those values gets used is, when attacking a gym, the pokemon's quick attack, base attack, IV attack and then any other modifiers(same type attack modifier for instance) are all added up to determine the damage a pokemon does.

so when a Vaporeon with perfect IV's attacks a VAporeon wiht the worst IV's, even if both are exactly the same CP, the one wiht perfect IV's will always win in a fight. usually with about 30 to 40% health left over.

here is a really good video explaining it all for those who care

The long and the short of it is you keep the pokemon with an iv of 99 % and chuck the ones with 1%

In a perfect world where you get too many catches you only evolve a pokemon that has IV's of 90%, those are the ones that will have massive amounts of CP when you power them up.
This is why people say don't waste stardust early on in the game, only use it on high IV Pokemon.
