Could also be people spoofing location to here to takeover gyms here and cash in gym ownership (Pokemon is officially unreleased which does mean players are less likely). In the end, nothing limits you from this.. though Niantic should have a way of detecting a user that owns a gym in one country and plays in another.
 
people do fake their location.

I tried this weekend. I created a different account, and went in from a complete n00b perspecrtive. the criteria was no root, should not take more than 10 mins to set up and I need to find everything in one place.

10 mins later I was walking around central park on my phone (different account) I jumped from there to Paris because why not. caught pokemon and turned pokestops in both locations. within minutes of each other.
then I jumped to LA, and suddenly I could not turn pokestops or catch even a CP 10 weedle it kept breaking free and running.

so I uninstalled the gps spoofing ap, and removed the fake acount from my phone, put my account back on and caried on playing for real.

its so easy to do, and if you dont do silly things like jump insane distances quickly they wont catch you.

this was done to see how easy it was. the idea was simple, can my Fiance's sister do it, she still wants her blackberry back because android is too difficuilt to understand for her. so I thought it would be a good trail. the conclusion, anyone who finds that video on yourtube can do it, in 10 minutes. because the video is 5 min long, and the process takes 5 mins to set up (including download time of the app)

Nope, it was a very obvious Afrikaans name :p. Guy could've just been really lucky but it's very suspicious.
 
I have also beaten a CP 700 odd Tauros in my gym at work. it was also a Very obviously Afrikaans name now that I think about it.

When I start to see CP3000+ stuff is when it's going to start to annoy me.

or when you are alone on a street corner at 23:55 on a sunday night taking a gym and suddenly after you take it another team claims it, but there is no one around. its the middle of nowhere and the middle of the night. you know they spoofing.
 
It will fizzle out when the bans start coming, until then you can rule the roost.

Yup. Same here. No idea where the hell to go. Although, the footprints didn't help me much either :cry:
 
I actually stopped looking at the nearby tab, would just pop an insense if I had one and walked, with luck you could get 20 odd pokemon while moving on an insense.

Depends.. remember thaat u get a limited number of candies with the egg, so he would have to get the egg after a certain level. Guess u can wait and see if the CP of his pokemon increases over the course of the week when the gym is taken and he puts it back

Incense spawns one Pokemon every 5 minutes or one every 60 seconds if you've moved 200m in the 60 seconds.

Best is a place with lots of pokestops, if you are lucky they are lured and this stacks with incense. So you basically just walk from stop to stop grabbing whatever pops.

Finds a nice spot you can pace back and forth or find somewhere you want to go that's 3km from your home.
