The Vivo is never the better option. It's rubbish. Take this from someone who spends a lot of time with cars. If you want a cheap polo, you much better off getting a pre owned 2007 - 2009 Polo with average mileage. Those Vivo's are slow, noisy and fall apart.

My in laws went from a 2008 polo to a vivo and they are regretting it so much. one heck of a downgrade!
 
Polo Vivo is the biggest ripoff that this automobile market has seen.

You're better off with a Yaris or a Figo. Or, considering that this is a short-term thing, you may as well simply get a Tazz for the time being- the cost will be far less.

+1 more. Had one before I bought my Polo (the irony is not lost on me), and it was one of the best little cars I've ever owned. Very solid, albeit a bit tight in the luggage compartment if you want to haul anything larger than a loaf of bread.

Son, a 1.4 with 55kW is NEVER going to be punchy no matter how you look at it.
 
You can get a lot of car for that money, way more than a Polo. I recently got something with 103kw, less than 60,000km on the clock and plenty of toys for R100k.

Dont buy a 1.2 swift, figo or polo vivo. None of those cars have decent safety features. Google the crash test that was done on the swift 1.2(tin can on wheels) and the figo. My bud has the base vivo, he was in an attempted hijacking and was lucky enough to escape unharmed. Your no. 1 priority should be safety, then total cost of ownership and fuel economy. I suggest ford fiesta or an opel. Try to get a recent model

Both the Fiesta and Corsa are decent places to be.

I drove a rental Fiesta 1.4 from Bloem to Centurion the other day. It maintained a hundred and plenty all the way and the handling is very good. I was impressed.

I still wouldnt go for that 1.2 model.Some manufacturers seem to be importing cars for the indian and latin americn market.These countries produce cheap cars and not safe ones.I think there are some exceptions i.e hyundai but the likes of fiat palio,figo,1.2 swift,datsun and tata try to meet very basic safety requirements.The safety requirements for this country are a joke.I think that ABS should be standard.I would rather buy a slightly older fiesta that has safety features and r&d invested in it,than buy the likes of a vivo,figo,palio etc.

Vivo has a solid safety rating, albeit older tech, it's German for one (That usually counts for something :P). Vivo is just a little pricey for something that is a bit outdated. Good car nonetheless, and I'd take that over the Fiesta.
