Polo 1.4 Base Hatch (55kw)

I worry more about the likes of the Chevy Spark and such.

I would rather drive my 14 year old Corsa without any safety features because I feel less likely to die in that than a Spark.

Dude we are getting ripped off by the used car market. I wanted to buy a used car but decided to go new, as i wouldnt be saving much. Keen on the new mazda 2 but i doubt it will be affordable. Safety has become a priority for me so will be chucking my car asap

Lol you are safer than me in your corsa. I have a ka at the moment and the ncap video scares the hell out of me
 
Well I don't use the Corsa to transport our baby, that's for sure. That's what the Golf 5 is for.
 
WRT ABS, my Vivo has it.

Loving this little thing, when I read the comments WRT the 1.4, I was expecting one hell of a sluggish ride, but no, she gets up quickly and doesn't seem to run out of power, I am just amazed at just how much more stable than the Hyundai it feels, I feel more confident with its handling.

I have been driving up and down between Sandton, Fourways and Douglasdale, tank is at 3/4 still despite me over revving and getting used to it in general.

I have driven plenty of cars in the last few years, a whole lot of Hyundais, Kias, BMWs, Jeeps, Volvos etc... I don't feel ripped off at this price and I look forward to purchasing either a used (low milage) Mini Cooper S or a BMW 120d late next year when I am done with my internship (I will be done in Feb 2015) plus saved up a bit and earning a much more substantial salary, but for now this little Polo Vivo will do just right :) one step at a time.

Completely agree, The i10, i20 and Accent feel so unstable at speed it's scary.

I have indeed, the 2014 Fiesta, and a 2007 Fiesta to be specific, brilliant cars, Ford have done a great job with the current model, but the previous is just not my cup of tea neither is the Figo which I was looking at.

I drove an i10 in Durban in late 2012, and yep, also very unstable, even more than the Accent, especially on the highway, but I expected the i10 to be like that considering its design, I was surprised to find the Accent like that, considering it sits at the upper end of Hyundais hatches, never driven an i20 though. Their 1.6 motor is also not as punchy as one may expect vs. a Fiesta or Polo for example.

Credit where its due though, their cars come with a lot of bells&whistles for what you pay, the alloys on the Accent also look great and the ride around town at lower speeds is quite comfy.
 
Have you had a look at the Honda Brio sedan? can get some second hand at that price. Seems like a nice little car.

Very good cars for the price. They handle OK, but they do feel a bit light on the road as it isn't a very large car. They fill the gap between the vanilla i10 and the bigger brother i20, but power is a bit lacking as it uses the 1.2l engine from the i10. A lot of nice features though and the interior space is deceptively roomy. The boot is a bit on the small side though if you plan on packing anything more than a bag or two in there

I almost rolled my friend's i20 going around a slight bend on the highway. I agree that somehow it feels unstable. Never had problems around that bend with other cars.
 
I have driven a Spark from JHB to CPT in one go, they are stable and nippy. I have also done thousands of miles in an i10, handles brilliantly. The only think a Vivo is better than, is the Citi it replaced. The rest is simply a better buy.

I agree.The vivo isnt for me.I think we are spoilt for choice. Most SA citizens shop with a sense of brand loyalty.If i was going to buy a used car it would be:ford fiesta (from 2010 onwards) or the corsa 1.4 sport or colour edition(that is a sexy car).I have about 2 months to make a decision but waiting for the mazda 2 to launch.
