Ponzi schemes at state level

ANC Government = FAIL

let's call it what it is.

The only thing that the ANC government can actually take credit for is Trevor Manual, Tito Mboweni and SARS.

The rest is all massive, epic, staggering FAIL.

There are countless heart-breaking stories of small independent producers facing financial ruin because the SABC can’t pay them — or won’t. Some have told me how they’ve remortgaged their own houses, others are in millions of rands worth of debt. All have bona fide contracts with a state-funded company that can’t get it together to pay its bills. Now the SABC wants more taxpayers’ money. Madness.

Absolutely

Maybe the people concerned should start a class action against the SABC's board members? :D

If only something could be done to secure funds for these 'guys' outside of the SABC. Not only would it give these guys a better bergaining chip, but it would also diversify their income a bit.
Now if I had shuttleworth's millions there's an opportunity right there!

A lot of African countries are actually doing very well for themselves.. The reason being is that they actually get off their asses and can't blame some apartheid regime.

South Africa honeymoon for AA/BEE is starting to run on emty - The fat is taken - THE BONES IS STARTING TO SHOW - Some of them is running for the hills - Zambia/Zimbabwe/South Africa no differance

Aaah, but they have not yet added "DVD Licence" (already have "TV Licence") Then there is "access fee" and "service fee" and "delivery charge" and "transmission access" and "airwaves usage" ... and all and all.

Say What??

I am truly amazed by the level, of me too, yes lets all dig in but not have facts to base our opinions on attitude in this thread.

this article was poorly constructed by a journalist who has an axe to grind.

Lets put some facts on the table:

1. Some state owned enterprises are failining in certain respects, financial management amongst them, this does not mean that our government is a failure or that the ANC is failing, they develop policy and yes they need to intervene which is what they are doing, companies fail all the, time anyone remember Arthur Anderson, Chrysler, GM?
2. Comparing some of these SOE's to the Ponzy scheme is ludacris and smacks of unintelligent wild comments lacking any sort of perspective or adequate thought processes.
3. South Africa is by no means a failed state or nearing a failed state and cannot even be compared to countries like Zimbabwe, This Afro Pessimism must come to an end. Yes we have problems, but we are doing incredibly well all things considered, anyone who witnessed the wonderful Confed cup can attest to that. Let me remind everyone that many European, Indian and Chinese companies are flocking to Africa as their next growth market, would they be doing so if its future was bleack? Where do many of these multinationals setup shop when they want to start business in Africa, you guessed it! In SA.
4. Stop all the negative vibes about this great country of ours, rather participate in its development, and yes BEE has its faults but is necessary to address the wrongs of the past, and YES Apartheid was wrong and needs to be addressed. Many consider the Apartheid government to have been successful well that was easy when you had 100% of the resources to look after 15% of the population, when you start spreading things around more evenly it does get more difficult.

Now for the practical bit, the What can I do Part?

Has anyone considered taking a job in one of our State owned enterprises? Why not, you will be earning a living and directly contributing to the success of this country and All it's people. Provide advice and constructive criticsm with a view to improve things, if you want to complain with no other purpose but to criticize and lay blaim then join :p the rest of the complainers in Perth

Sorry me too white for that. Go figure  Telling people to leave the country is so last year. If you don't like complaining don't read.

Watch this space - in a couple of years Telkom is going to ask for financial assistance from Government. Their ANC cronies don't know how to run a business.

We can impose an ANC supporters tax to cover the money now required by the parastatals.

Another excellent idea!
And it should not be too hard persuading Mr Boesak to assist you in getting Trevor I to convince Trevor II what diplomatic phrases to include in his forthcoming budget when introducing such ANC Supporter Tax for the benefit of all cadres in the country!
