Hi Guys,

I have had an uphill battle with my 4 meg ADSL for the last 6 months. I have had the telkom technicians to test the line twice, just telling me the speed is OK and the line is fine. The call centre is also not helpful as you are speaking to non technical people. You can't get through to someone with who you can have an intelligent conversation to problem solve.

I basically cant access the internet at more than 1 mbps, despite being connected at 4 mbps.

My line always connects at 4 mbps, and has not dropped the sync speed once. There are RX errors how ever, but I am not sure if there are enough to reduce the speed.

Here is the speed I normally get. This is from my Mikrotik router;

Some speedtest.net tests;

As you can see this is with three different ISP's and all have similar results ruling out any ISP issues.

What can I do to get the issue resolved? I suspect the issue is at the DSLAM and not my line.

I've had the same issue with my 4Mbps line and I tried to get them to port swop it, which they do not do anymore. Then my line sync speeds went crazy and then they eventually dropped me to a 3Mb line. which is even slower than I originally wanted.

Hi

That is an very constant one meg, are you sure it's not your service provider that which have you on an 1 mbps account?

I am very sure. Cybersmart allows up to 10 Meg. Wireless G up to 4 or 10. And I have another Openweb Special 4 Meg uncapped account. All of these worked fine for the first 6 months and I got consistant download speeds of 3.5 mbps on all of these accounts.

This is what makes it even more frustrating since I know how well the line worked when I got it.

In that case I would take everything of the line ( adsl router and Mikrotik), borrow someone els's adsl router. And see if it does the same.
