Does anyone know of any ISP that offeres POP3 secure mail ?
Here is a nice detailed description of POP3 and associated secure layers / protocols

Post Office Protocol

Not sure if Outlook has any option to use STARTTLS ?
The STARTTLS extension allows the use of Transport Layer Security (TLS) or Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to be negotiated using the STLS command, on the standard POP3 port, rather than an alternate. Some clients and servers instead use the alternate-port method, which uses TCP port 995 (POP3S)

I have tried this on the mail accounts I use -- Telkom being one of them -- but NONE seem to support any from of security ?

Straight POP3 like TELNET sends everything in the clear <ouch>

Any ideas -- and can anyone comment on the non-use by Telkom of any form of client connection security on their mail servers ?

Secure eMail -- NOT in SA !

Interesting ; apart from TELKOM it appears that HETZNER also does not support SSL or any email security

Not Using SSL

I wonder what the reason is ?

So it is easier for the state dumb spooks to snoop in our mail ?
