Pope Francis

That god sounds like a dic. Just saying

Seems like you don't quite realise how bad Israel actually got. They descended into all kinds of depravity.

6And they forsook all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made for themselves molten images of two calves; and they made an Asherah, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.
17And they burned their sons and their daughters as offerings, and used divination and sorcery, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger. (2 Kgs. 17:16-17)

2Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD his God, as his father David had done,
3but he walked in the way of the kings of Israel. He even burned his son as an offering, according to the abominable practices of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel. (2 Kgs. 16:2-3)

Well i think it's clear the catholic church are not totally aligned with God's perfect will at every turn, so the correct answer is a bit of both really. God may occasionally influence things, especially in cases where prayer and humility has lead those who run the church to seek his guidance and will, but the clear failings of the catholic church shows He largely allows man's choices to play out. The broad concept of sowing and reaping has to play out within the wider system. Any influence he chooses to manifest generally plays out in that context because that's how he chooses to deal with free agents..
Humility leading to the will of God. Sowing what you reap. If this was the case the world wouldn't be in the state it is in as good guys would always triumph but we know that's not the case. If it is true that God is forcing his will on the world events then he is a sick ****. Just saying.

Benedict and Francis, The White Pope and the Black Pope will now be able to sit around a roaring log fire with brandy snifters Reminiscing about the Good Ole Days.

Back on topic. Do you think this pope being elected is the Will of God or the choice of man? Seeing you know your bible well.
Both.
Ever read the Acts of the Apostles?
What's the first thing the Apostles do after Christ's Ascension? They choose a successor bishop to take Judas's place. And yes, the original Greek says "bishop".

The NT records that when the first pope definitively and authoritatively decided a vexing problem of religious dietary laws, he said the matter was decided by him and the Holy Spirit.

Not either-or.

Both-and.

Actually, the so-called Black Pope is the Superior General of the Jesuits, which of course Francis I never was.

The "black pope" is the same guy under Benedict and Francis.

No banana. Sorry.

This is something I won't ever be able to wrap my head around. The bible having gray areas like this is what makes it open for interpretation and ultimately misused for whomever wants to.

If you make a bad decision you suffer from you can say Oh I strayed from God's will. When you achieve like winning at sport you gain from you thank God saying it's God will. As a logical person I cannot reason it out.

If you look at the story of Israel in the OT. When the Israelites obeyed God and lived holy lives, in accordance with the laws he had give them, God blessed them and often positively intervened on their behalf as a clear consequence of their obedience. But when they repeatedly chose to sin generation after generation he eventually distanced himself somewhat, eventually allowing Satan and Israel's enemies to overtake them and carry them away. People make good and bad choices, and those choices either have good or bad consequences. If the Catholic church sort themselves out and begin to do a better job more closely resembling the actual Gospel presented in scripture, then obviously as a consequence of that they will gain a closer relationship with God and thus the benefits that relationship brings.

i like to believe that i'm a good person and believe in some heavenly being that created mankind etc and so forth. but i certainly don't believe for one second that any religion is THE god given religion that must be the dictator of all religions. everyone is praying to the same god through whatever religion they choose. who is anyone to judge what bible or religion is the correct one and to say conclusively that it says so in that particular passage in that particular bible.

i do believe that you need to step aside and allow others to believe in their own religions, they are as good and wholesome as you are.

He looks a lot like PW Botha

Die Groot Krokodil is nou die hoof van die katolieke kerk :)

Guess they'll be doing this again in a few years then. Although popes seem to live for a surprisingly long time, must be all the semen they consume throughout their lives.

It's a grey area. Since Francis doesn't answer to The Superior General any more since his election.

Well you cannot exactly change a whole religion to suit the modern lifestyle, can you? That would make a mockery of the religion itself.
Maybe you're being sarcastic and I didn't get it, but that's exactly what they've done :D
