Porsche Taycan Turbo S sets new Nurburgring record

Porsche Taycan Turbo S set a new Nurburgring record for a production electric car. It beat the previous record of 7 minutes and 35 seconds set by Tesla Model S Plaid by a comfortable margin and it went faster than Koenigsegg CCX or CCR. It managed to match the Porsche 911 GT3 RS with its 7 minutes and 33 seconds.

The new record is official and the car was a stock vehicle apart from the compulsory roll cage. The weight of the car was identical with a production model but the performance can be attributed to the latest Performance Kit from Porsche. The improvement is quite something - last time Taycan Turbo went around Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 42 seconds.

The Performance Kit doesn’t change the power output or add any new aero parts. It is simply a set of 21” RS-Spyder alloy wheels wrapped in road legal Pirelli P Zero Corsa. Those are racing tyres with a special grippy compound but have road approved thread - they aren’t slick tires.

Another part of the Performance Kit is the updated software for PDCC - Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control. The new software takes into account the grippy tires and allows for greater acceleration through the corners and improves torque vectoring.

TAG Heuer Connect Calibre E4 Porsche Edition smartwatch can control your Taycan

TAG Heuer announced its new smartwatch, the Connect Calibre E4 Porsche Edition. As the name implies, the design and the special watchface are inspired by the Porsche cars, more precisely - the Taycan.

You will find that distinctive blue electric blue accent color from the Taycan on the watch and the stitches on the band. The bezel goes from 0 to 400, which Tag Heuer says references the Taycan's speed. The body is made of sandblasted titanium, whereas the crown on the right is steel and rubber. The strap is calfskin on a rubber base and designers were able to apply a finish that strongly resembles carbon fibre.

The best part is that the watch comes with a special watchface with complications that give you info about your own Taycan. You can check the battery charge, remaining mileage, total distance traveled and battery temperature.

Porsche's new era to bring next-generation saloon duo plus four more EVs

Porsche is preparing to introduce a second generation of the wildly successful Porsche Taycan EV – and it will be twinned with an electric version of the Porsche Panamera as part of a new “electrified luxury” plan under which up to six electric models will be ushered in by the end of this decade.

Both new EVs are based on a sporting version of the Volkswagen Group’s Scalable Systems Platform (SSP), which is being developed by Porsche.

The so-called SSP Sport structure adopts the backbone of the SSP architecture set to be used by other more volume-orientated electric Volkswagen Group models. However, it will be combined with what have been described to Autocar as “Porsche-specific modules”.

Updated, high-performance Porsche Taycan spotted testing

Aerodynamic design changes for the Tesla Model S Plaid rival hint at boosted performance

Porsche is readying a high-performance variant of its electric saloon, the Porsche Taycan, featuring aerodynamic upgrades and adapted bodywork.

A prototype was spotted testing on track in Germany with a significantly lower profile than any Taycan on sale today, a large rear spoiler, a modified front bumper and slightly adjusted side sills.

It was driven by Lars Kern, a Porsche factory driver, and fitted with a roll cage and a racing seat, although other interior details were well hidden.

The changes indicate this variant of Taycan will benefit from boosted aerodynamics and downforce, hinting at ramped-up performance.

It would improve on the 751bhp already available from the Taycan Turbo S Sport Turismo, which can race from 0-62mph in 2.8sec and on to a top speed of 162mph.

Porsche didn't comment on the prototype, but should the Taycan receive a performance upgrade as part of the update, it would put it within touching distance of the 1005bhp Tesla Model S Plaid.

Is This An Even Faster Porsche Taycan Testing?

A new Porsche Taycan prototype has recently been spotted testing but this time it is flexing some serious aero elements usually found on their GT cars.

The obvious new elements include the extended front splitter, chunky side skirts, rear diffuser, and rear wing. The front air curtains have also been sealed, suggesting the prototype might feature new air channels hidden behind the front fascia. There are also some makeshift sensors attached to the roof, though their purpose remains a mystery.

The man behind the wheel was none other than Lars Kern who is responsible for most of their official Nürburgring lap times including the 7:33.35 set in the Taycan Turbo S giving it the title for production EVs at the ‘Ring.

Performance version of updated Porsche Taycan takes on Nurburgring

Courtesy of Autoexpress we have a set of amazing photos that will get your heart pumping with excitement. What we are looking at is a high-performance version of Porsche Taycan testing at the notorious Nurburgring.

Porsche snatched the Nurburgring record from the Tesla Model S in a much slower car on paper. Taycan is heavier than Tesla and it has less power yet managed to snatch the crown thanks to its handling - simply by being able to carry much more speed through the corners.

Why have a faster Taycan then? Taycan was, and still is, an experiment for Porsche. Even if that turned into a runaway success the company is still using it to test some crazy concepts. Taycan is a precursor of the upcoming electric Boxster and even 911. The company will simply push the development of Taycan as far as it can and then use the lessons and technology for even faster electric Porsches.

Looking at the photos, this is not just a face-lifted and spoiler-added version of Taycan. This is a full race-spec development chassis with a full FIA cage built-in, driver gets what looks like the Recaro P1300 bucket seat with the passenger getting the Porsche GT3RS seat - interesting combo. Is it possible that we are looking at a GT RS version of Taycan? Unlikely, but wouldn't that be awesome?

Porsche Taycan Performance Kit unleashes EV’s track potential

Chassis package used by car that broke the Nürburgring lap record could eventually be offered outside Germany

The Porsche Taycan Performance Kit, as fitted to the car that recently broke the production EV record at the Nürburgring, could evenutally be offered in markets outside Germany.

A company spokesperson responsible for the Taycan line told Autocar that it is an issue of attaining type approval for each market – implying that there would have to be enough customer demand for the €13,377 (£11,684) option to justify the cost of the approval process in the UK and elsewhere.

But there are currently no plans to offer this in the UK – and it is instead intended to demonstrate the potential of the Taycan platform.

The package, offered through the brand’s German Tequipment store, brings two handling upgrades focused on track use.

The first is a set of 21in RS Spyder-design alloy wheels – the lightest set offered on the model, according to a spokesperson – wrapped in sticky Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres. These measure 275mm wide at the front and 325mm wide at the rear so are wider than those typically offered on even the range-topping Porsche Taycan Turbo S, which gets 265mm-wide rubber up front and 305mm at the rear.

Meanwhile, the suspension receives bespoke software tuned around the grippier tyres.

Porsche Taycan breaks records with 100 000 units in just three years

Porsche presented its first fully-electric sports car to the public in 2019 with a spectacular world premiere held simultaneously on three continents. Three years later after production first started at the Zuffunhausen plant, the Taycan has managed to hit the momentous milestone of 100 000 units.

“The Taycan links our heritage to the future. It carries forward the success story of our brand, a brand that has fascinated and thrilled the world over for more than 70 years,” said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, who opened the world premiere in Berlin.

The milestone came to life on the 7th of November 2022, marking three years of expansion in the EV models lineup. In the form of a Taycan Turbo S finished in Neptune blue, the four-door sports saloon will be making its way to its owner located in the United Kingdom. The Taycan Turbo S can generate up to 560 kW of power and 1 050 N.m of torque, with a top speed of 260 km/h. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2,8 seconds. The Taycan is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of the usual 400 volts for electric vehicles. This is an advantage for Taycan drivers on the road, in just over five minutes, the battery can be recharged using direct current (DC) from the high-power charging network for a range of up to 100 kilometres

Porsche presented its first fully-electric sports car to the public in 2019 and just three years later, the 100 000th model has rolled off of the Zuffunhausen production line as a Taycan Turbo S wearing Neptune Blue paintwork.
