Hi

I would like to port my number to 8ta, because they cheap and offer the best data deals.

My question is this:

1. How much does it cost to port your number to 8ta?
2. What Do i need to port number?
3. Where do I go to port my number?
4. What happens to my airtime balance?

thanks

I recently ported my number, as in last week.

1. It cost me nothing. I guess it depends on what package you go, for me it was a contract special which included free sim connection ect.

2. Your current number should be on prepaid (8ta doesn't do porting while you are still on contract, cause it costs them money they need to pay to the current provider), if it is currently on contract, get the contract cancelled first, but be sure to ask them to convert you to prepaid and not kill the number.

3. Go to any 8ta shop, when you sign up for contract you can opt to port your number.

4. Any airtime balance currently on your number will be lost. I used MTN's ME2U and sent all my air time to a second sim, my mom and dad. I had R660 airtime to move, and you are limited to R200/day to a specific number.

Hope that clears it up a bit.

ps. props to Mariam at 8ta in Cape Town central, she really helped me out and I had zero problems along the way on 8ta's side, everything working 100%.

I have a prepaid sim card, i dont want a contract, i would like to move my number to 8ta as a prepaid package there too.

Well in that case just ask them at any 8ta shop, you will probably have to get a 8ta prepaid sim, which is I think 100% free, then just get them to port it, not sure if it will still be free then.
