STRIKE - Train disruptions from 5 June to 5 July 2023​

A strike between 5 June and 5 July 2023 means there will be major disruptions to rail traffic affecting all services, with possible impact on the days before and after the strike period, on 4 June and 6 July.
See the list above to check which trains will be affected each day and plan your journey in advance.
Customers who have tickets for Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, International, InterRegional and Regional trains will get a full refund, or they can exchange their ticket free of charge for another train of the same category and class.
Refunds or exchanges may be made at myCP in the "Your tickets" area (for tickets purchased at the Online Ticket Office and CP App) up to 15 minutes before the train leaves the customer's station of origin, or at ticket offices.

Sorry for the late reply.

Yes, we did that.

The boat can be full but I did not find it overcrowded.

You get a nice breakfast at the start of the journey, you travel up quite a few very big locks. Lunch is good and you get bottles of wine for your table. Your table is allocated to you when you board. The wine is enough for everyone and we took the leftover bottles up to the deck and sat drinking it whilst enjoying the view.

They also bring complimentary wine in the morning and you can buy glasses of wine for 1 Euro. (This was in 2017.)

We did not take the train back the same day but slept over for two nights on a wine farm walking distance from Pinhao.

We took the train back after that, Pinhao Station even has a wine tasting room.

I will highly recommend this trip, but split it over a couple of days.

We took public transport everywhere with buses and trains. Don't expect normal Europe punctuality with trains but the bus system is excellent.
 
First portion of holiday booked in Belem (Lisbon).

Topped up insurance taken with Bryte from Investec R1830 for two people. More details to follow as visa booking is next week.
 
Bit late to the thread, saw some posts about the food etc. If you have netflix, check out the Lisbon episode on Somebody Feed Phil. Could give you a couple of spots to trip and outside of food some places to see.

Between Belem and Lisbon there is an interesting place called LX Factory with some speciality shops and restaurants, the train stops just outside. It is a nice short pitstop for a beer or wine. https://lxfactory.com/en/homepage-en/

Currently looking like this
27 Aug - 3 Sept Lisbon
Then
Porto 3 nights
Duoro Valley 2 nights want to stay in a "quinta" likely in Pinhao I believe then do some hikes in the area too.
Then a night in either Nazere or Coimbra still deciding on this point - the following day is check out then fly at 11pm not a great time :P

On a side note anywhere to showever etc when we land before check in can you access international lounge in Lisbon or not really any other suggestions we land at 7am and check in at 4pm

I usually book the previous night too if I can't get an early check-in. Especially the first day you don't want to hang around for a whole day in Lisbon dirty and tired.

As for Coimbra or Nazare, I will check from which one it will be the easiest to get back to Lisbon. I have only been to Coimbra and it is a nice University town with quite a few restaurants and Fado shows.

Sweet thanks! Got an awesome place but the day before is booked couldnt pass on booking because of that did however ask the host to let us know if there was a cancellation to include the day before.

Please do me a favour and take pics of menus, with food, beer and wine prices and post it here. That is always helpful for others to budget.
 
Maybe we must start a separate thread with overseas menu prices. I am going to Thailand next month and will start a thread with only prices then.

Remember that in Portugal the prices don't have VAT on them, that's added at the end. I found this out the hard (expensive) way. Large group all paid for themselves (families) and I got my bit plus everyone else's 22%. Most expensive pizza I've ever had.

Was also toying with the idea of Chama need to get that reservation in ASAP if we do. Will add to the to look at list
