Hi there everyone.

I currently have two problems at the moment that I need help with.

Every-time I connect to the internet (Vodacom 3G dongle) , Windows warns me that there is another computer with the same IP address on the network and that I should contact my administrator ASAP. Problem is, I'm the administrator, I only have the one computer and apart from the internet, it is not connected to any other network.

Also, every-time I click on a button on any webpage (Mozilla Firefox) a new window automatically opens (https://ad.yieldmanager.com...). This is so annoying!!!

My initial thought was that a virus or spyware might be to blame. I did full system scans with Vipre , Malewarebytes & SuperAntiSpyware. Non of the scans returned any hits.

I have also reinstalled Mozilla with no change.

Any advice?

Smells like browser hijacking toolbar - what toolbars and add-ons do you have installed? Also, are you making use of a free proxy like Hotspot?

I have no extra toolbars installed on Mozilla. The only add-on I have installed is the one mentioned above to remove the adds.

No, I don't make use of any proxy's.

Is this a possible security risk ?

Mmm - it sounds to me like something is redirecting your network on connection to give it an alternate IP address - which already exists on that side - and is throwing out a popup ad.

Search your cookies for any match on yieldmanager and delete. Also, try this suggestion from first response. I have used TDSSKiller quite successfully in the past.

TDSSKiller did not find anything.....

Anyway, will start using Chrome once I get my new PC from Wootware (counting the hours!!! )

Thank you everyone.

I used to get this problem with Vista and a Vodacom 3G and it was a real PITA. Never hurts to check and make sure but I don't think this is Malware.

Things you can try:

Disabling and re-enabling the (all) network connection(s)
Re-boot and start everything up from scratch again
Always use the same USB port
Make sure you have latest firmware/drivers/vodacom dashboard for your modem.
If you have Virtualbox or VMWare on the PC, disable or uninstall host only network adapter if present
I think Nokia mobile phone software (OVI?) used to conflict with the Vodacom so exit or remove this if present

EDIT: Just re-read your OP. The above doesn't refer to the yieldmanager bit which obviously needs to be sorted but still try the above for the IP issue

If you haven't already done so, I would suggest disabling System Restore, booting into safe mode and then running the virus scan.

Thanks for your response.

The adds have stopped popping up all over the place thanks to UnHappy :D

Regarding the IP issue, maybe I have just confused the crap out of my PC by switching between my MobileWifi modem and my USB dongle 10 times today. Will unplug/reinstall everything from scratch.

Cheerio
