Post your HP Proliant Microserver Setup here!

The battery life is really good, only need to charge if I have left it on for a few days. Not sure if its just the one I have, but sometimes it 'forgets' to enter a keypress. The trackball also takes some getting used to, it can irritate you at times. But overall it does its job and sits nicely on the lounge table with the other remotes :)

Mine has got the stock 250GB HDD for the OS and download folders etc. Another 250GB for backups of my other PC's.
2X2TB for media files.
No RAID nonsense because it's just not worth all the wasted space. I bought this thing because it's CHEAP after all, no point if I spend as much money as a proper server on it anyway.
4GB of standard DDR3 RAM
No graphics cards etc, using it purely as a storage/streaming/backup server

Windows Home Server 2011, with Twonky Server as the media server.

I also have 2 of them :

#1: FreeNAS 0.7 on a 8GB stick
Default 1GB RAM, no GPU
4x 2TB WD green UFS, in a 2x RAID 1 config (opted out of RAID 5)
In this config I only managed 3.2TB, so Im probably going to remove the second RAID 1 and run as 1x RAID 1 for 'mission critical' data and 2x 2TB Standalone which should give me 4.8TB.

I still need to tweak this a little as my write speed across my home GE LAN is only 80Mbs at the mo.

#2: XBMC Live 10.1 on a 16GB stick
1Gb RAM
Inno3D GT210 Passive ( Had to bend the fins on the heat sink - currently runs around 70'C peak)
IOGear GKM561R wireless keyboard
USB PC Remote ( BidorBuy elcheapo - got it for the IR Port - currently use my HDPVR Remote)
XBOX 360 Wireless PC Adapter

Emulators dont run too well within XBMC on a low end machine, so Ive reconfigured the server to 1st boot into fluxbox, and then to start XBMC (which hasnt affected XBMC performance). To start an emulator, I exit XBMC which takes me to fluxbox automatically where I start the emu - I have no issues running SDLMame and pSX like this so far.

250GB onboard
onboard GFX
1GB Ram
1 x 2TB HDD
XBMC - Win7
MCE remote

Used as a Basic Media center

So far...

Unraid - Free version
2 X 2TB HDD

Used as NAS to my ZOTAC MAG HD-ND01 (http://hothardware.com/Reviews/Small-Wonder-Zotacs-HDND01-Nettop/)

Future plans:

- Get an unraid license
- Add my 1.5TB, and 500GB to the Raid Array
- Buy a 2TB parity drive
- Replace 500GB to a 2TB

Edit: If anyone want to share an Uraid licences (and get it at the cheaper rate), please PM me. i will update this post one i get a license

Hey guys,

These boxes just got a ÂŁ100 rebate here in the UK, so I can pick one up for ÂŁ139. Intention is to be an HTPC. Is anyone using a Gigabyte N210SL-1GI card with it? Does it fit? It's low profile and passively cooled - the cooler doesn't look to be wider than the bay, but I want to be sure.

Koffiejunkie: that is still a normal profile bracket (on the picture), so you'll have to make sure that it comes with a low profile bracket.

Thanks. Apparently they do come with a low-profile back-plate (and I have an extra). I ended up deciding not to get one right now. It's cheap, but I have a lot of other things going that's sucking up funds (moving house, overseas trip, etc). Maybe next year.

Anyone know where I can get a 2gb RAM stick from? I am installing WHS2011 and it needs a minimum of 2gb.

Thanks

You can go for any DDR3 240-pin, 1.5V RAM module - except for the buffered ECC memory if I'm not mistaken.

Hi Guys. Been a while since this threads been updates. How about taking it up a notch ? I.E post complete setups and maybe advise on optimal settings/gear. Here's mine with some questions :D

HTPC
Hp N40L
1 x 500GB - Windows 7 32bit
2 x 2TB HDDs
6GB RAM (only 4 usable )
MSI 520GT
Sound via cheapie usb card (stereo )
XBMC / PLEX SERVER

OTHER
Sammy 46" 7 Series
Yamaha RX-V471
Sony 5.1 speaker set
HD PVR ( sound via coax into receiver)

I currently have PVR and HP in HDMI1 and HDMI2 on sammy which was a quick lazy setup and never bothered changing.
What would be best . I have ARC on Sammy and on Yamaha .Dusted off the surround speakers and mounted it.
I was thinking ditch the usb sound and run sound over HDMI . HTPC into receiver . PVR into receiver and from receiver using ARC to TV ARC. Any setting i need to be aware of re HDMI sound ?

HTPC:
Windows 7 - XBMC "Eden"
ASUS Xonar DX XD PCI Express 7.1 Audio Card
Asus ATI Radeon HD5450
4GB RAM

Other:
(Soon to get rid of) DSTV HD PVR
