PostBox-Courier.com how to

To all those who just don't quite believe or perhaps understand that consolidation saves you money, consider the following.

Parcel from the USA via PBC;

25cm x 35cm x 45cm weighing 1kg will cost $125

That same box if it were to weigh 8kgs, will still cost $125

So then, still safe to use PbC? Have a small item (<10GBP value) I want to bring in, but fear that it might get stuck at customs.

Very safe. The delivery from the UK is very very fast. If your parcel is delivered to the depot on say Monday, you will have it the next day in South Africa.

:D Sweet

EDIT: Seems the customer support has gone home already, so thought to ask here.

The parcel email gives the following info
ID: xxxxxxxx
My Name
PBC UK
Unit 13 Blackthorne Crescent
Dept: 78-0969
Colnbrook
Berkshire
SL3 0QR

Amazon fields:
Full name
Address line 1 / company name
Line 2
Town
County
Postcode
etc

So I'm assuming it should be
Name: Bob xxxxxxxx von surname
Add 1: PBC UK
Add 2: Unit 13 Blackthorne Crescent, Dept: 78-0969

Or should the PBC UK be in the name field with the Unit and Dept split between the 2 address lines?

perfect. Will be using PBC for my borack foriday bundurruuu(black friday bundle) shopping then.

I know that this thread is about PBC, but since the ongoing postal strike is loosely related to PBC, here's 2 bits of info for those of you who are interested:

South African Post Office board quits

And here's a snippet from the official SAPO Facebook page (emphasis by me):

Many residents of Gauteng are receiving mail again as mail processing continues in Tshwane Mail and Witspos, the major sorting centres of Gauteng. Tshwane Mail is today manned at 88% of full capacity. The mail centre will work over weekends and later introduce a night shift when enough employees and mail containers become available.

Witspos sorting centre has introduced a night shift.

Incidents of intimidation have been reduced following support from the SA Police Services and street delivery in most areas of Pretoria has resumed. In the greater Johannesburg area, delivery to postboxes has resumed.

A significant backlog remains at the Johannesburg International Mail Centre for mail coming into South Africa from other countries. Mail is flowing to countries outside South Africa. International surface mail is not affected by the industrial action.

No post offices are closed as a result of intimidation. Repair work has started on the post offices that were damaged by striking workers and these offices are expected to start opening from Monday 10 November.

Mail processing has also resumed at the Polokwane sorting centre, which was affected by industrial action. In other provinces the mail service is normal with no employees on strike.

So I suppose that's a good sign then that one day our parcels will be delivered. It will be my last and final willing interaction with the Post Office.

Another update from SAPO via their Facebook page (highlighting by me):

Incidents of intimidation are subsiding – there were no incidents the past 48 hours – and operations are clearly improving. Despite this, the backlog remains substantial in Gauteng and at the international mail centre.

In Bloemfontein, 9 trucks with mail left to other major towns in the province. At Tshwane Mail, Pretoria, 478 people are back at work. The majority of workers are back at Witspos, but the Krugerdorp and East Rand sorting facilities are not open. Our delivery trucks now circumvent these sorting centres with mail going straight to the post offices in these areas.

The three post offices in Pretoria that were closed after being vandalised have been repaired and are now open. These are Tramshed, Atteridgeville, and Belle Ombre. Employees of the Atteridgeville Post Office fixed the damage themselves to reopen the office sooner - it's great to see their dedication to service.

A total of 83 people are at work at the JIMC today, which is a substantial improvement. Mail leaving the country is flowing normally, but the backlog for air mail coming into South Africa remains high. International surface mail (which comes into South Africa by ship) is moving normally.

Operations in Limpopo are normal. One office is closed: The Florapark post office in Polokwane.

Thanks ripclaw, still holding thumbs my parcel arrives one day.

The b@stards will probably try and charge us storage fees...

So Black Friday is coming up in a few days time, while Black Friday specials have already been put up.

Is there anyway to do shopping in the US while completely avoiding SAPO for the local leg? If so, please specify. My last shipment was with Stackry about 4-5 months back before the strike started, and the final delivery to my door was from a SAPO courier.

What do you guys suggest? I'd like to use Stackry because I have $20 credit in my account, thanks to their referral system.

(BTW - if anyone wants a referral link, send me a PM. You will get a $10.00 discount off your first shipment, and when you ship I will get $10.00 credited to my account to use for my next shipment. Win-win.)

You can still use Stackry but only choose one of the two Fedex shipping options. Pound for pound, PBC is cheaper but the consolidation is still an issue.

In summary, if you are going to buy from multiple sources, use Stackry with Fedex shipping, otherwise use Postbox-Courier.

I had a parcel leave Stackry on Monday evening and it arrived at my office on Thursday. I used the cheaper Fedex option.

Also just had a consolidated Stackry/Fedex incoming - quick and slick.

The best part about using Fedex is that they will contact you to pre-clear the parcel. Unlike TNT of course who will wait until you call them and then they'll tell you they are waiting for payment. Duh!

Highlighting by me. Personally, I'll believe it when I see notifications for packages to be picked up from the post office.

All transport routes went out from Witspos yesterday and only 10 people in the mail centre were absent from work. We’re glad to report that employees in the Krugersdorp mail centre – who stayed away from work, citing intimidation as reason – have returned to work and are sorting mail.
Tshwane Mail is operational and all post offices in Pretoria are open. Unfortunately 22 post offices in the Witwatersrand are still closed.
All routes went out in the areas south of Johannesburg. In Tshwane, almost all employees are at work. The Johannesburg international mail centre is showing a great improvement with 147 people at work today. They are working on getting out the backlog of incoming mail – mail leaving South Africa is working normally.
International surface mail is working normally.

The mail service in Bloemfontein and Welkom are affected by some absenteeism, but the mail service is normal in the rest of South Africa.

Pulled the trigger on the new Paypal partnership with https://www.usaddress.com... Been wanting to try something like this for a while - and with the $10 discount thrown in, figured I'd give it a go...

Want the iFixit data-doubler kit for a Mac Mini - only(?) one I could find was over at BoB, and that came to just over R1k - hoping this works out a bit cheaper...

Would appreciate a suggestion about my shipping address?

Should I go with the SAPO Private Bag of my company, or opt for my actual office address, and see if they deliver to my door?

The shipping calculator/FAQs state that they do deliver to the door - but then where would one pay the custom's clearance if I opt for the latter?
