Power bank capacity tested

I'm looking for a powerbank to charge my laptop in a pinch, even if it's just a trickle. A guess most of these would do the job?
 
These power banks often used the common 18650 cells, which come in at +- 2500mah capacity. So a 10 000mah power bank needs to have at least 4 of these cells inside it and would be quite heavy. Each cell is like R100+, so unless it costs R400 or more, it can't have genuine cells or that number of cells in it.

I realise that some powerbanks use pouch cells or other configurations, but they would still need to cost hundreds of rand and be reasonable heavy if they advertise high mah ratings.

I Built one for myself, not pretty but works very well. this is my first try though, need to print a new enclosure still.
Ignore the Mah rating as that was at different voltages since it has quickcharge and power delivery.

116wh - 31000mah, 4x USB ports.
White adapter (Romoss) is 1x 1amp + 1x 2amp
Other adapter type c does quickcharge and PD up to 20v 1.5 amp = 35w, type a port does quickcharge 3

I am on my 4th Romoss power bank.

1. Sailing 4 (10,000mAH)
2. Polymos 10 Air (10,000mAH)
3. Sense X (10,000mAH)
4. Sense 8+ (30,000mAH)

All still in working order. Gave the Sailing 4 away, still have the Polymos and Sense X in the cupboard. The Sense 8+ is my daily.
 
I can also recommend Romoss. Dropped mine countless times, the case is all cracked, but it still works. It wasn't expensive either. you get what you pay for.

That's a little beyond my skillset but impressive none the less.

Right now I'm testing an Adata (also a p20100 from the look of it) while exporting 1000 raw images and a exporting movie and the battery level remains pegged at 100% - I can't ask for better than that
 
These tests make absolutely no sense. How are you turning maximum current into a percentage of watt/hours???

Conduct test at a draw of x current then the meter will give you a wh rating when the test is completed (batteries dead).
Higher current draw usually equals lower total capacity due to the batteries and the converter circuit efficiency.

Hmmm the p20100 on takealot only says 5v output nothin about power delivery, which is generally what's needed for laptops.

One thing that I love with the M1 MBA is that even my small 5W cellphone charger can keep it at 100% while doing light browsing/mails/Youtube.

If I push it with some games then it will slowly eat away at the capacity, but even then I would lose maybe 10% every 90 minutes or so.

It's charging at 4.9w. Probably just ticking over but it should be able to increase my battery life significantly when I need it.

I really miss the magsafe but this almost makes up for it. :)

Have you looked into those magnetic USB-C adapters at all again? Maybe I will spring for one if I find a good deal on it and can make sure it won't burn my house down:oops:
