Power rationing until July

What I am missing in the article is Escom's plan to reduce their unplanned maintenance incidents of 7000+ MW. This is far more than what they would regain from power rationing. Why is there such a deathly silence about this?

I don't think they have a plan. :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Weasel words, weasel words, and more weasel words. "power rationing to improve system security" ... um, yeah, as if the "system security" is already good, now it will be "improved"! Yay, flowers and butterflies. "pre-emptive load curtailment" ... uh how TF is that different from any other blackout. This manipulative language of lies is not exactly enamouring me of them.

Article translated to English: "We've stuffed up the entire country's electricity supply, now we are in our moer for at least another six months (actually, five to eight years). There'll be blackouts, lots of them."

Can't wait to see all the huge bonuses this year because of how 'well' they 'reacted to' and 'managed' this disaster.

According to an interview on Cape Talk, the 'allowance' will be 1200kWh per household. There was talk of a band of 200kWh above that with what I take 'punitive tariffs'. Above that you may possibly get cut off, i.e. more than 1400kWh usage.

Interesting, last I heard was that it would be based on your 2007 average usage (and of course there are huge problems with that, discussed on other threads).

What I'd like to work out is how much I'm using now, and how that would compare to the 1200kWh limit. How many kWh is a prepaid 'unit'? If it's 1 (which would make sense, so it probably isn't), the restrictions shouldn't hurt me much (again, that would make sense, because I use relatively little electricity).

A prepaid unit is supposed to be 1kW.h, yes. It's going to be interesting to see how they handle 1 person households vs. 6-8 person households. 1 person will use a lot less power (taking fewer baths, for one thing). This will of course be reflected in your average usage (if City Power can actually correctly measure it and not estimate ...)

Its definitely 1 to 1, my prepaid meter actually says kWh on it and the number corresponds to the units.

Rationing is definitely less damaging to the economy if people do succeed in using 10% less electricity which will result in much less/no load shedding, is it not?

I have been using the same amount for 5 years.
And in that time, I have built on a home office, had a child, added a few new servers, bought heaters and so on.

I am ALREADY saving as much as possible. Every light is turned off when not is use and so on.

SAVING MORE IS NOT AN OPTION FOR ME.

So we are going to get capped on electricity usage? bwhahaha...yes, you can see Telkom had a hand in this!!

Eskom prob went to Telkom for help....and they said..."Look, do what we do...and when they go over, charge their ears off..."

Eskom will introduce a new system for the first year.
When you use up all you [-]international[/-] all-appliance [-]bandwidth[/-] electricity, you will be [-]routed[/-] moved to a [-]local only[/-] "fridge and TV" only system for the rest of the month.
You can then [-]top up[/-] pay through the nose if you need to use other appliances.

But, no worries. [-]ICASA[/-] Alec Erwin has promised that the problem will be alleviated with [-]Neo-Tel[/-] some hare-brained scheme.

Last year, Alec-Big Ears- Erwin ran his little snotty English mouth on how *** we are and how Eskom is doing such a fine job...and now???

Now he sits with carrots in his ****ing ears (big ones at that-must have bought them from Fruit and Veg) and pretends he doesn't hear anything...not even an apology....**** him..

If I see you on the street Alec, I promise you I will throw you with my 300w ****ing kettle!!!

Hows that for load shedding?

A kettle would not even hurt his ego. I've got an old chest freezer zapped by loadshedding. Anyone interested in tossing the freezer at him

If it were up to a democratic vote then I'm pretty sure that the carrot would not be in his ear(s).

Moederloos: The truth in that kinda kills all the funniness that would be there.

pre-emptive load curtailment, where it would take out blocks of power for certain periods of time.
They found a new euphemism...now all is well again. No need for actual action.
