That might be true, but there is just not enough room of running many heaters if you sleep where you eat and eat where you sleep, not like those shacks have multiple rooms to heat each and every room separately, very soon you are going to burn your shack down.

So not to say that there is no wastage, it is there, but the scale is just different, what someone in Diepsloot might be wasting could be the same or less than what someone in Hyde Park considers a normal lifestyle.

That's why I made the example of people installing solar but still using ridiculous amounts of electricity, that talks to the scale, what you are describing could be comparable if you have two households in a larney suburb with one paying and one connecting illegally, because the scale and the lifestyle is the same, the difference will be more apparent.

Sure, but you're forgetting scale, you have 10 shacks using as much as they can in the same space as the house, those 10 shacks will actually use more electricity, keep multiplying that by the number of shacks and illegal connections. Also remember there is no protection like trip switches and and, this is why the areas with illegal connections are the first targets for load reduction.
The house in Hyde park even if it was connected illegally still wouldn't use as much as the shacks.

Must say I don't use electric heaters to heat my home. I consider it wasteful and I'd rather just wear layers. If a shack is running one for several kWs all night on an illegal connection it's, scarily enough, probably using more power than my house.
 
There's the should-be-free culture as well of course, been around since the '94 change and very much promoted by the powers that shouldn't be. As we all know
Not that they're alone in this, it's become a worldwide phenomenon.

I hate heaters but the people i work with are all extremally sensitive and bitch and moan about any form of cold, they all sitting with heaters on in the office those small ones and im just chilling with my hoodie... Our inverter is chilling at like 3kwh just from those 3 guys... We originally had a 5kwh installed and because of them had to get another 5 installed so 10 kwh for a small office like tiny and 4 people work in it...

Plus that's just one shack, and they are even worse in insulation then a house, so it could be 2.

My entire home is using like 13kWh a day.

Your office sounds like it's using that in like 2h.

We have 1 massive AC and then 2 smaller ones, the big one does about 3 kwh power draw and it makes the room feel like a sauna and i get the brunt of things and die, i get headaches and that from it since our office has 0 airflow so i put my foot down and said they can't use it why should i suffer since they a bunch of powder puff girls... the two smaller ones i had running but idk they had some complaint i don't even want to be in this shithole of an office

Our household 3 people does anywhere from 8 to 15 in a day (we are solar) so only purchase like 30 odd percent depending on weather

Yes its chilly in Cape Town at the moment + our office gets even colder due to double glazed windows and no air flow + we in the shade so no direct sun when there is

Visiting a site and some offices have aircons blasting @ 30 degrees. I end up sweating like a pig and they ask me why I'm not wearing a jacket...

Yes, but it's kinda useless reducing it to individual circumstances if we are talking about demand that affect the power grid, your neighbour could easily compensate for the 2000W that is on in Diepsloot.

I am of the view that the demand patterns are not what we might think they are even with the illegal connections, but I do appreciate without any date there isn't much to work on.
