Looking like stage 2/3 right?
If they don't use OCGTs yes, but it's also only a brief shoot up to that, normally for higher stages it would be if it's negative from like 5pm to 9pm, but the biggest one is only at 6pm

This seems to be it, effecting some in "previous" blocks 7, 8, 13, 14 & 16.

City Power exempts essential services and businesses from loadshedding
15 March 2024

City Power's promise to exclude majority of essential services and businesses from loadshedding in
Joburg is gaining momentum with more customers benefiting. This is realised as the City’s local
energy team put up a lot of work behind the scenes to reconfigure the network, realign the blocks,
and enter into load curtailment agreements with most of businesses and essential service
customers.

These positive developments however mean that some of the loadshedding blocks will be affected
as customers may have been moved during this realignment exercise. Therefore, as early as
Sunday, 17 March 2024, some customers will be moved to new loadshedding blocks as City Power
effects these crucial changes in some of its areas of supply within the City of Johannesburg.

Some of the essential infrastructure that will be added to the exemption from loadshedding through
this exercise include the Bulk Water Treatment Plants to address the water supply interruption
challenges, among other reasons. Most of the City’s water and sanitation reticulation systems rely
on electricity, with pump stations at treatment works requiring constant uninterrupted power supply
to operate optimally. The continuous loadshedding often interrupts these operations.

In response to this challenge, City Power has taken a decision to exclude the Hursthill and Lenasia
Treatment Works from loadshedding. Rand Water's Robertville transit water pump station in
Roodepoort will also be excluded after a dedicated feeder-line was built as part of the new state-of-
the-art Fleurhof Substation to be unveiled on Tuesday 19 March 2024. Fourteen other Joburg
Water's sites have been identified for the exclusion with alternative supply projects about to start
across the City.

The other factor that compelled the entity to make these adjustments is the technical changes as
the reconfiguration and refurbishment of the network continues. The ongoing rehabilitation of the
Bellevue substation after it was severely damaged in a fire in December 2023, also necessitated for
its exclusion from loadshedding. This is to enable repairs to be carried out without disruptions while
customers supplied from the substation are on load rotation.

Upon completion of the installation of the four cables in Kyasands, some of the businesses currently
embedded with residential customers in the area, will benefit from the exclusion. Kya Sand is also
under consideration when the current project undertaken to normalise the network in the business
area is finalised.

The last component that was also factored in on the decision to revise the loadshedding blocks was
the exclusion of certain businesses. Several load curtailment agreements have been signed with
City Power and the organisation is engaging more large power users to partner with it in this regard.

The entity is in the process of considering additional applications from other businesses that are
also seeking exemption as part of the load curtailment programme. Load curtailment agreements
mean that large power users and business customers who qualify will be excluded from
loadshedding on condition that they curtail their consumption and reduce it to acceptable levels
should the need arise especially during higher stages of loadshedding.

This will allow the city’s economic activities to proceed unhindered and prevent job losses while
attracting investments.

“This is part of our mandate as an entity to provide power supply in a manner that promotes the
city’s social and economic objectives. We are very pleased with the decision we made last year to
take over the loadshedding switch from Eskom, as now we are in a position to exempt essential
services, among others, and this, for the benefit of the residents of Johannesburg,” says Tshifularo
Mashava, City Power CEO.

“The recent challenges faced by our essential services customers with water supply also compelled
us to work harder to fast-track the work we have already started of exempting these services from
loadshedding. We are currently working alongside the City and Gauteng government to ensure that
more of these crucial services, including schools, clinics, and so forth, are protected from the impact
of loadshedding” she added.

The new changes will not affect the current loadshedding schedule. Simply put, these changes
mean, for example, that some customers who currently fall under group 4, will now move to group
13 on the loadshedding blocks.

Stop bumping this thread now.

You're inviting Murphy in for a visit...

The declared availability is staying roughly the same over the last 2 weeks, but the forecasted demand is up

So more OCGTs or pumped storage usage for that 5 to 9pm slot.

Only thing is if it's become a created knife edge, or if it's genuine conditions. You know what I think.

Certainly for now it seems less edgy.
and my response to that always is they don't have the brain capacity to engineer a knife edge. That's like asking them to juggle while they sweep up the piles of ash lying all over everything.

and I always add that their puppet masters do have that.

Guess we'll never know for sure anyway :-|
