Why not run the OCGTs instead of having egg on their face having to backtrack their no loadshitting call on sat evening?
Money.

Minor loadshedding with running just coal is more acceptable than no loadsheding with high diesel costs.

Coal is cheaper so yeas more coal stations to run.
Coal is cheaper yes, when it works, and more is working in the last few day for whatever reason. Hopefully it is the winter units coming online which means we might avoid the apocalypse this winter.

Then why have they been running diesel almost non-stop for 2 weeks including the previous 2 weekends? I suspect they ran out.

Less availability of the coal fleet.

Also quite frankly probably trying to save face and political infighting. The reality is, they cost a **** ton of money to run and saw what the government wants, they cannot make diesel appear out of thin air and refineries are private, not to mention we have less now than a year ago.

I know, more than R4/kWh, so it's a huge loss maker for the company, but is making some people very rich. They import the diesel as we don't make it here anymore as the refineries have closed down.

Is BRICS here? If so, lets see if all this extra coal they pulled out their arse keeps working. If it does, then we know its political gerrymandering.
Did you not see the rand tank because the government wanted to give Putin diplomatic immunity? Everyone came out and was like you need to arrest him if he comes to SA and our rand tanked even harder than Eskom's generating capacity

Not much has been spoken about gas being added into our energy mix (except for the massive Richards Bay one which is currently being challenged by greenies in court).

Given up hope about this, for now, greenies & their left wing masters seem to control the ANC (much of the time).

The earlier predications of permanent stage 2 make more sense now since Durban is now being LS
