Just had a look at my schedule for the week, assuming we're still on Stage 6, what a shocker when I saw Area 10 (City of Cape Town) will have 8 f**king hours of continues loadshedding during the night, Tuesday from 8PM until Wednesdag 4AM. Looks like it's because Wednesday is the 1st of March and the schedule changes completely.

Damn, what a complete mess!

I see the City of Cape Town's twitter account is getting it in the neck for saving the Sea Point and Greenpoint area (think area 7?) over this past week due to Formula E. Then they have the temerity to say "Load-shedding at non-stop high levels impacts the protection the City can provide and reserves must be replenished for the week ahead."

Nope, other areas are paying the price for hosting this ridiculous event, hence no relief.

We keep saying winter will be a shitshow. But will it?

We know they have 9GW that’s meant to be back by then.

If all the units that are meant to come back, do - worse case is we will be in the same situation we are now?
The problem is that their meant to bes never really materialise. If anything it's usually worse than anything they do predict.

Won't they turn off unit 2 when they turn on unit 1?
I remember reading something about that when unit 1 went off as well, but I recently read that unit 2 was refueled last year, so I don't think so? Unless they are taking it off for something other than refueling...

From what I remember it's going off as part of the life extension

Well they are running out of time to upgrade the thing as their operating license expires next year afaik. Unit 2 also needs the upgrade.

Eskom seeks a new CEO. Reporting to the board, the successful candidate must end more than five years of blackouts in 12 to 18 months – or he/she will become a convenient scapegoat and public punching bag. You should be comfortable dealing with corrupt politicians, a decrepit park of power stations, a meager maintenance budget and a coal lobby determined to stop expansion into solar and wind power. Some finance experience is desirable as the company is running an unsustainable debt load of more than $20 billion. Salary is negotiable, but paid in a currency that, due to the electricity crisis, has fallen 40% against the US dollar in the last five years. Should you choose to apply, please send us your CV to: [email protected]

That's a good read!
