They dont have a sufficient amount of diesel to sustain this past may a day or two.. Logistical issues come into play because of the sheer amount of diesel that needs to be transported to the OCGTs. Eskom mentions in their last statement that they are struggling to replenish emergency resources because of the large amount of breakdowns. I think that is what will push us over the edge into load shedding by tomorrow or Thursday unless there is a drastic improvement.

Notice how they were using the OCGTs yesterday - throughout the day and night! Using them for base load in other words.. The fact that they were burning diesel overnight seems to indicate they are struggling to run the pumps at the storage schemes and meet the low overnight demand at the same time. Very precarious.

Eskom Available Capacity: 28 808MW
Eskom used 20 emergency diesel generators to prevent loadshedding tonight
Eskom OCGT's Utilised: 14
IPP OCGT's Utilised: 6

Another close call. Pretty high demand for summer

Thanks for sharing! Not looking great at all. I would be suprised if they dont announce load shedding very soon.

If I may ask, where were you able to get these stats? The spokesperson's Twitter page is where I usually go to get this info. He's been dead quiet tonight.

How is a power alert lead to load shedding? This just is a thread about poweralert.co.za generally.

Usually a post that the system is under constraint and a few hours later. . . loadshedding stage who ever starts. . . Well thats generally what I noticed when there has been a posting of the grid under constraint
