I've successfully created a broadband dialup connection.

My LAN has internet access via the adsl router which is connected to an axxess uncapped account

I also have a normal shaped adsl account that i want to use on my laptop.

I have created the account and dialed, and it shows connected.

how do i tell my laptop to use the broadband dial up connection for internet, rather than the lan for internet?

if you access the internet through the LAN then the PPPOE is handled by the modem, and your modem isn't in bridge mode so PPPOE won't work properly, if you have an uncapped account then why bother with local??

@hoegh, zeely says the dial-up connection is running, so bridge mode / half-bridge mode/ compatibility mode is enabled.

In windows, the dial-up connection is added to your computer's routing as the connection to use for all non LAN traffic, so it should use the dial up connection for all internet access when the dial-up connection is running.

Are you asking how to get internet explorer to always dial before connecting?
Are you asking how to get internet explorer to use the dial-up connection, but have email use the LAN connection?

I might be wrong here I am no network expert but me thinks what is happening is his lap top is connected to the lan hence connected to an uncapped international account but he creates a pppoe connection on his laptop that is local only.

Since he is connected to both networks at the same time pppoe/bridged being preferred network he is still getting international bandwidth

thats what I think is happening to prove this what he can do is do a trace route to a local site then one to an international site and see how it routes

p.s. to do a trace route in command prompt type
Code:
tracert www.absa.co.za

you should notice a difference from the 2nd or 3rd hop
