Pre-built systems

I did look at the LOQ E, but think a desktop would be a better bet for me since I don't need the battery of a laptop with a solar system now available.

How is the RX7600 graphics card. I see PC Builder has a system with them instead of RTX5050. Their systems come with 2 year warranty...

It's fine as a mid card, not as supported as the 5050 or 5060 is. So if you're wanting to game look at Nvidia.

A desktop can make a lot of sense and it will definitely last longer especially because components can be re-used in a newer build. PSU, Case and SSD for example if you are sticking with a AM4 system for now.

I do think a 5060 laptop GPU may outperform a 5050 desktop GPU even if capped at 80w. Chatgpt gave me this: 1764063408256.png

Not sure how accurate this is though.

Would going for an AM4 system be that bad? My max budget would be around R16000 if I do decide to for it. A bit of gaming capability would be good, but gaming would be very much secondary use.

IMO get the best you can with your budget when you need it. There will always be better more expensive tech on the horizon.

I hate debt so I try to buy what I can afford if I need it. I've been looking at new computers for 2 years I still haven't bought one yet.

Leaning towards getting the PCBuilder Pathfinder

At least it's from a more reputable company, has a 24 month warranty and is sold directly not a third party.

I know the 5050 might be better, but if I understand it the 5600x gives slightly better room for a future GPU upgrade. Majority of my time will be used for browsing/Youtube/office stuff with the occasional game thrown in.

Afaik PC Builder is run by Syntech so if you know someone with an account you may be able to get it slightly cheaper...

It may be useful to paste the build specs of the ones you are considering into Chatgpt and ask for a comparison it may also stear you on the right direction when you mention your spessific workloads. It's not flawless but I find it useful nonetheless.

I like the idea of having a CPU with integrated graphics as a backup but it's generally not good bang for buck in comparison with other options.

I would also look at idle power consumption but maybe that doesn't matter to you since you mentioned solar.

The cpu side generally sucks

Argh. So many things to consider. If it wasn't for the end of support for Win 10 I'd just stick to my 7 year old laptop. It's still ticking along...

Not sure I understand.
I think he means a CPU with integrated graphics generally sucks in comparison. I think it's more of a bang for buck problem. If you have a graphics card already you can get a better cpu without integrated graphics at a lower price generally.

Are you aware that you may be able to get windows 11 installed by removing the tpm check when creating the installation media?

I heard there were workarounds, but haven't looked into the specifics. That being said, my laptop is 7 years old now and still runs a normal HDD. Think it might actually be a time for an upgrade. The question is just when and to what.

Most of my gaming is done on the PS5 so the desktop/laptop will be mostly productivity and browsing stuff. Gaming would be a nice added bonus.

Slap in an SSD and install Linux. Mint will do that just fine and run spendidly
