Currently you have two options to get data bundles:

1) You buy a specific data size on contract, say 500MB per month. If you exceed this, you can buy a top up that's valid for that month. Beginning of the following month, you're on your contract bundle again.

2) You can buy ad-hoc bundles by specifying the bundle size you want for the following month. Once a month you can adjust the size for the following month. If you take a 500MB the first month and see you only use half, you can specify 250MB for the next month. You can even adjust it down to zero.

The third option will be pre-paid where you buy a data bundle on your pre-paid account. This bundle will last for 30 days. You can then buy a new bundle.

You can see that ad-hoc bundles are very close to pre-paid if you manage them carefully.

Maybe I'm missing something ... prepaid customers can't buy ad-hoc bundles, so how is it close to prepaid bundles?

I assume that these prepaid bundles will be priced cheaper than the current R2/MB that us poor prepaid users are stuck with?

I assume what he meant was ad-hoc bundles is the "prepaid bundle for contract users" . i.e. a contract user [without any monthly subscription to a bundle] can buy an ad-hoc [one-shot] bundle [just for the current month] without having to subscribe to anything.

Trust me, the SECOND it becomes available, it will be announced here with fanfare, dancing girls and all round celebrations!!!

So don't try it every day, don't listen to anyone telling you it's available. I'll let you know the moment it's here.
any news on the celebrations?
1st January would be good...when the clock rolls over..

V3g?? its a long time since 1st November...better late than never

we are still all holding thumbs.....waiting, waiting, waiting

Around March this year I said "you'll have a warm winter". Fortunately, I never said which year... :o

Actually, AFAIK there is one issue ourstanding that needs to be sorted, so keep on holding those thumbs....

what kind of problems are they having? High volume instability or is it billing problems?

Can't wait..

Hi all,

I'm new around here..:D

I've been using vodacom's prepaid GPRS to access the web, since the begining of the year,
I've transferred about 1.2 gigs in this time, thats R2400.00
Of course thats not really a lot of data for a whole year :)

But I've been hoping for prepaid data bundles for ages..
maybe in the new year?

*holding thumbs*

I hope you are aware that MTN do have prepaid bundles ? Not to be anti-vodacom [i still have a contract at V and hoping to get some sort of HSDPA advantage out of it ] , but MTNs system works just great on prepaid and i can't fathom how Vodacom can struggle THIS much to catch up considering Vodacom was "first" to jump on the tech.

I've already set up 2 people on MTN prepaid [because it can be done in literally 10 minutes with a prepaid sim costing R4 ! ]. Even though i myself dont really need prepaid bundles, i can see the "ipod" in this.

I wasn't, until today after reading through this post :)
I think however that my phone is network locked, and I just bought it 3 weeks ago,
but I guess I might try it anyway, only R4 to test it .. I can live with that :D

New idea

I've just had a new idea :D

It would be cool if vodacom implemented a new tariff plan for prepaid users.
I mean we have: Standard, SmartStep and 4U, each one suited to particular use...

How about a "data" tariff plan? I hardly ever make voice calls, so I wouldn't be bothered if calls became more expensive in exchange for data coming down! ;)

PLEASE VODACOM3G tell us when this is likely to happen. I really want to go onto prepaid 3G but with the expense, it is ridiculous at the moment. Dont force us to join the opposition.

we are all waiting.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................how much longer ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????................................................................................................................................................................................................

like a bunch of nagging kids!

:D

PS how are those datacards comming that the meter is supposed to support?

must be hugeeee problems.......... I'm thinking maybe vodacom's 50% stake holder telkom is worried that prepaid data bundles will hurt their dial-up subscriptions...... what do you guys think about that thought? makes sense doesn't it...

what doesn't make sense is the amount of time they take to fix a "stability problem"

Vodacom are taking so long, cell c will have pre-paid data bundels before them....Hopefuly when Branson gets involved he will kick some A$$

Vodacom having fun advertising products before releasing them :)
It was also advertised in the YeboNEWS that i get with my contract statement over 4 months ago...

How can they advertise something and not offer it. That is very bad business practise
