Probably another 'false alarm' :o The guys are still busy with testing.

piranha786, won't you PM me the mail you got? It's probably a marketing action that was triggered a while ago based on the 1st of November launch date.

give me an email, then I can fwd you the mail - its the Yebo newsletter, most probably you have seen it

Hi Gents

I have a pal at 082, who is 'quite senior'
082 will start testing 2mb per second this December, so it's likely to be rolled out in the 1st quarter of 2006.
Not quite sure what Telkom will make of that, but ADSL will take lots of strain in the market place. By December of 2006, he believes that 4mb/s will be in place...

Hello nrb
Welcome to the forum.
Perhaps you should repost this message in the "HSDPA availability" thread. This thread is for "keeping the pressure" on the relevant parties at Vodacom to release pre-paid data bundles. We would like to stick to the topic ;)

Thought it might be the newsletter. It went out before the testing showed a few wobblies....

To re-iterate, everything's in place but it's being held back by the system testing guys (a good thing!) till they're 100% happy with the stability.

They've nearly completed the list of concerns so it go live at any time.

v3g,

I dont wanna be rude, but you have been promising prepaid data bundles for quite some time now, saying they will be here soon.

Are there no way of giving us a date or something?

You also keep shooting down anybody that "heard" something somewhere.

I know you don't control this, but it is getting on my nerves.

Again, sorry if I come over as rude.

Not rude at all :)

The current date is 'anytime now'! As I said, it's only a few tests that need to pass then it's all go, could be in the next hour or the next few days.

Not shooting anyone down, but I'm VERY close to all of this so I probably have the latest & correct info. Rather see it as making sure you get the right info and not hear-say.

As you would have noticed, Vodacom believes in an open, transparent policy and this is what I try and feed back here.

We're all edgy to get pre-paid, so I fully understand where you come from :)

It is in a PDF YEBO Newsletter NOV 2005 so I just copied the part related to prepaid

Prepaid & Top Up Customers
Prepaid and Top Up customers now have the
option of buying a data bundle that lasts for a
period of 30 days. This means that customers
can now get a megabyte of data for as little as
49 cents as opposed to R2.00 per megabyte.
The table on the left details the different options
that are available.
Customers can purchase these bundles in
three different ways i.e.
• By sending an SMS to the number 100.
The SMS must contain the respective data
bundle they would like to purchase eg.
My Meg 150
• By dialling *111# and selecting a data
bundle from the menu
• By visiting www.vodacom4me.co.za
The charge for the data bundle selected, will be
deducted from the customer's airtime account
and from then on the customer's data bundle
will be held and managed separately from his
normal airtime account.

NEW DATA TARIFF OPTIONS
Vodacom has introduced a number of new
data offerings for Contract customers, Top Up
and Prepaid customers.

These options include:

AD-HOC DATA BUNDLES AND DATA BUNDLES
FOR PREPAID AND TOP UP CUSTOMERS
Data Bundle Cost Data Effective
Included Charge per MB
3G 20 & My Meg 20 R35.00 20 MB R1.75
3G 75 & My Meg 75 R110.00 75 MB R1.47
3G 150 & My Meg 150 R149.00 150 MB 99 cents
3G 250 & My Meg 250 R200.00 250 MB 80 cents
3G 500 & My Meg 500 R350.00 500 MB 70 cents
3G One & My Meg One R499.00 1 GB 49 cents
3G One & My Meg Two R998.00 2 GB 49 cents
3G One & My Meg Three R1497.00 3 GB 49 cents
3G One & My Meg Five R2495.00 5 GB 49 cents
3G One & My Meg Ten R4990.00 10 GB 49 cents
This info is 100% correct

I just got my hardcopy of YeboNews with my contract statement. Details all the great features of the pre-paid bundles.

@v3g the cat is now completely out the bag - so i think you should give the tech guys a little nudge to avoid lots of customer dissatisfaction. ps I'm sure they working hard on it - i know how deadlines can screw you with these sorta things but a little encouragement never hurt... right :D

they changin the system.....so we can loose data bundles after 30 days and cannot indefinitely carry over by re buying a new bundle....correct? V3g? is that whats taking soooo long? j.j but time will tell

Good news: regarding adhoc bundles for contract users...the newsletter says u can buy more than one in a month so if you bought a my meg150 for example an it ran out on the 15th no need to pay R2, buy another!

Come on Vodacom, I don't wanna buy another bundle "just for the time being" on a certain competitor's network

Do you know something the rest of us don't? I wish.
Nothing on the phone menu or vodacom4me this morning :(

This is really pathetic.....
Half a month late with a rollout..... thats unacceptable.
If I were to be this long late with payment Vodacom wouldn't be happy so I am not either.

Called 155 this morning. Very helpful CS lady, they do not let them know any dates either. Vodacom and Telkom (who are basically siamese twins) always try and put off cheaper better and faster technologies to make the most money out of their cutomer and being juust milimeters in front of their comparable competitors.

Fire the technicians, us Vodacom customers are paying them and they are not doing their job in the timeframe set out for them and costing me twice what i would have paid for the bundle we have been promised half a month ago.

Where exactly are you paying Vodacom to develop new products? Why don't you post your monthly Vodacom account here and highlight the portion that says: "Monthy fee to develop new products"

You are paying Vodacom to supply and manage the existing products you signed on for. Any new product is to your benefit, not your right, so it's unfair to come down on the guys for trying to get a product out that's not stable, according to V3G's posts.

Maybe Vodacom should just not talk about new products untill they're launched? And close down the open communication they've shown on this forum? Become like Telkom???

I agree. I'd rather wait for a fully functional product that takes more time to develop than get a product that suffers from flaws because development was rushed.

Well said Neo - if Vodacom launched the product with problems, they would be shot down for that. Pretty much a case of "damned if they do, damned if they don't".

Keep up the good work V3G and all those at Vodacom.

For your argument to be valid, Vodacom would have to be spending less money than they are making, also called an operating loss, which clearly isn't the case for either Vodacom or Telkom.

Secondly: We are talking about a product that has been promised half a month ago, not by hearsay, but by Vodacom themselves in a printed newsletter that I recieve with my invoice every month.

I agree. I'd rather wait for a fully functional product that takes more time to develop than get a product that suffers from flaws because development was rushed.

Fair enough, but wait then untill you can give the customer a fully functional product before you sit then with a deadline that is as dead as this one is.

I'm a paying customer and while i applaude some of the ingenious concepts of vodacom, i'm not about to kiss their A$$es when they make mistakes.

So whats the interim solution ?

So my 1gig is just about complete. vodacom4me states there is 8mb left.
I did not receive any of those sms notifications yet.
Whats my options with regards to getting more megs? Purchase a prepaid MTN sim or vodacom sim and load that seperately with mymeg bundles?
Or coast out the next couple of days on R2/mb and hope that prepaid bundles comes to light? My usuage should be fairly light over the next couple of days.
Are there any other options I'm overlooking here ?

tx

arguments ..arguments ...arguments....whatever the case: Vodacom mentioned in a printed newsletter that it is available as off 1st November and also when i called 155 at end October i was told; "tmrw it will be active"

The point is: dont publicize something when you cant deliver on the date. It was fine when we discussed it on this forum and V3g said something is in the pipeline>>>we can then wait >>but when you print it in a newsletter, be sure of what u doing>>>c'mon this aint my R100 company, this is a R100billion + corporation ..u go public when u know what u doing

anyway, im back on a contract bundle 4 now........
