Vodacom have a killer product in 3G - they can add thousands more clients if they lower the pricing somewhat, prepaid will obviously also help quite a bit.

But on the other hand, with too many clients, the performance levels will drop. Maybe we don't really want everybody to sign up for 3G just yet ;)

MTN is R1.50 per MB now, even if you do NOT have a data bundle... I bought a Sim Card (another one) yesterday and used the R10 they give FREE, and downloaded 6.1MB before they cut me. (The upload was obviosuly 500KB) to make 6.6MB ;)

Vodacom needs to seriously cut their prices to become as competitive as MTN

Yeah, and while they're at it they should do away with the in-bundle / out-of-bundle nonsense. Just make it one flat rate for crying out loud! The in-bundle stuff makes no sense to me, except for Vodacom to make more bucks. Do us all a favour and just have one data rate!

Seriously Off-topic

1) So MTN still give you R10 free? I thought that was meant to end Sunday midnight.

2) I think it is still R2 per meg out-of-bundle. They just let you go over the limit a little before disconnecting you.

3) Either way, you should have used the R10 to buy a 10 Meg data bundle.

Just bought a prepaid data bundle

Hi,

I spoke to a 155 rep and he told me it is available, and to sms mymeg 20 to 100, for a 20 \mb package, etc. I figured i will test with a low amount :)

I have a family-topup contract

I did that, and I verified that the R35 was taken off. I cannot see the data bundle on the usage page. I will surf a bit and see what happens.

You SMS "mymeg 20" to the number 100. I tried it and it seemed to work. The money was deducted but the data usage still came off the remaining airtime  Maybe it takes a while for the bundle to get activated.

Yup,

Seemed to work is right. I received a message after sending the sms that states:

"you bought a mymeg 20 data bundle. 20.00MB is available from your next session and is valid for 30 days. You \r prepaid account has been debited with R35"

It has:
8 GPRS 2005-11-30 14:57:34 0 R 0.04 No
9 GPRS 2005-11-30 14:23:27 0 R 1.59 No
10 Data Bundle Prepaid 2005-11-30 13:45:06 0 R -35.00 No

As you can see from the snippet from my itemised statement, I am still paying for usage. I wonder if my bundle is decreasing?

:(

Hi V3G are we waiting until after the date to see your next post in this thread? :D I've been using my ebucks to buy airtime, and they are all spent now... when I start spending real money, I may have to spend it on an MTN sim card so I can enjoy cheaper surfing.

Holding thumbs in anticipation for the prepaid bundles :o

8 December, hmm, I think 5 December will be more exciting with the Telkom Dotco Court Case :)

I went to a Vodashop(PicBell Parkade-Strand Street, Cape Town) about 45 minutes ago and the two women(this is not sexist) were clueless as to data bundles.

If feel sorry for anyone walking into that store tommorow demanding data bundles because these two gave me a lot of twak( it seemed they wanted to sell me a contract).

I will wait for you to test that theory.

I will test with a small bundle, and see if I can extend, say 3MB. After that I will try with bigger bundles.
