Disconnects

I am located in Waterkloof Ridge, Have been getting frequent disconnects and 619 errors when attempting to connect this evening. Yesterday all was fine.

So - Probably some network bug.

So I'm not sure where the expectation suddenly came from that it was going to be available 1st of July?

I did mention (off the record and in an attempt to keep you guys in the loop) that we're aiming for this time frame, but no official Vodacom anouncement was made.
Methinks the expectation most likely started with this article. ;)

Altough truthfully the article does say that PPDB's "would most likely be available by 1 July" ;)

Most people won't change sims just to make a quick data connection and then the other networks' 3G coverage is seemingly non-existant so they are not feasible for large downloads also.

On a side note, does anyone know where i can get the multi-sim "package" effect? I've seen it on international sites, where you cut the sim smaller and fit in 2 sims into your phone [pda in my case] , from there you got software or something able to switch between the sims.

I am having a MISSION with sim swopping on my jasjar at this stage. My phone number is Vodacom Prepaid [i had the number for like 5 years now, not planning on changing it now] . Then my data is on my contract sim, also vodacom. Then i also have a Virgin and MTN sim. I end up using my Voda sim permanently in my datacard [which sits permanently in my desktop pc] ....

Obviously i would prefer just loading bundles on my prepaid sim, but i can't! I now feel forced into a contract to get away from sim swopping my arse off...

At this stage i think number portability might beat Vodacom's Prepaid bundles, which is why i do not want to get into contracts now.

I know there's that prepaid contract effect, which i might have a look at if i'm not forced to sign a zillion papers and do an absurd amount of admin.

EDIT: And trust me, i also thought data on a PDA can't be that much to be worried about bundles...definitely not the case once you discover your PDA-phone can stream radio/tv and browse websites properly [not talking WAP here].

Thought I read it somewhere, but wasn't prepared to say that. The "available" part seem to have been the only thing that stuck though. As usual Vodacom is just messing with us again and I don't think that even v3g is kept in the loop as to what the real reasons are.

The frequent disconnects are a real pain lately. Then there are the times that it's impossible to get a connection established and even if by some miracle you get connected nothing wants to go through and you have to reconnect. Vc's service isn't going down the drain, it's already flushed away.

 That sounds dangerous. You might just cut up your phone number with it. Are you sure you actually saw it and are not confusing it with the devices that can take two sims?

Very much in the loop, no-one will be more happier, when PPDB's are launched, than the engineers getting me off their case.

Problem is though, V3G, that everything about Vodacom billing stinks! I have absolutely no gripes at all about the technical expertise at Vodacom - I don't have slow speeds in general (early June excluded) but you need to fire all your admin staff if you are ever going to improve this part of the business. I'm still having problems with a very simple problem that began in March when I bought my first ad-hoc bundle and I expect the same problems with my June (vodacomspeak July) bill. They can't even do a simple retariff properly, for heavens sake and two months is fine for passing credit! Try that with any other business outside Big Brother!

Actually that one you don't even have to cut anything it seems. But there's alot of varieties out there, just want to get it in South Africa....
I think you can make something like that yourself, but it would require the relevant electronics skills. Doesn't look like there's any software to install so I guess it works on the adapter which then acts as a separate single network.

According to the cellular giant their long awaited prepaid data bundles will most likely be available from the 1st of July.

Well i dont know about you guys, but as they said, PPBDs would most likely be available from 1st July, i never read what year, so who knows, MAYBE THEY MEANT THAT IT WOULD BE AVAILABLE (most likely) BY 1st July 2010???? IF NOT LATER

I have a contract sim which is currently in use and an old prepaid number not being used.

Ideally I would have liked to keep my voice and data seperately ie. use my prepaid sim for data. Was told by Vodashop that I would need to convert the prepaid sim to contract before I can add a data bundle.

Why should I have to pay CLIP and Itemised billing on a contract i'm only going to be using for data? And what contract can you migrate to without paying a monthly subscription.

Now i'll have to get Twincall on my contract number. At least it only costs R97 initial setup. (I hope)

Bring on prepaid bundles at affordable rates!!

Not keen on the twincall idea for data. Remember the 'active' SIM will also take any incoming calls. Just like you, I prefer keeping data and voice seperate.

Best 'contract' option for data would be a 4U, your can disable some of the add-on costs via 4me and can get the monthly cost down pretty low.

Itemised billing can be handy on data, as you can see when you downloaded how much data. A number of users have found this useful in the past.

Don't do anything drastic yet. Rather PM me if you want to discuss other options.

pre paid data bundles?

Hi I am new on the vodacom network and would like to know if its possible to get data bundles for pre paid sim cards? And if so how do I get it as I know on the MTN top up phone number you can add it automaticly.
