And sorry for pointing out the obvious here, but if you put your MTN sim into a Vodacom data card and it is network locked then it is not MTN's fault it is VODACOM'S FAULT. :

Right....hence the smiley face next to the statement

?

Ummmm - hate to have to say this but:-
SORRY FOR YOU :p
Family Top-Up is based on the Pre-Paid billing infrastructure - so until they have figured PPDB's out - there is no way of getting a data bundle on TopUp.... believe me I've tried :(

?
Cant you get a ADHOC databundle on Family TopUP?

and yes, The best time for PPDB from VC is >NOW<...the sooner the better!

V3G whats the progress with PPDBs? I just read that you've installed a new back-end that would make it possible.

He he he now I'm confused!

I'm not sure if you dont understand Qué or if you're using it as a word! Either way:

Qué? - I mentioned it in the other thread because that was the word used by Manuel from Fawlty towers quite a bit. (sounds like Ke?) It is similar to Huh?

You mentioned this
We had to develop a new billing back-end to cater for new types of services including PPDB's

which is why I asked this:

V3G whats the progress with PPDBs? I just read that you've installed a new back-end that would make it possible.

Hope all Qué's are ironed out!

In other words, on your question, the response is as vague as possible, or in political-speak "No comment" !

But I prefer Manuel's standard response (Qué?). Even though he often knew exactly what was going on, he played dumb and got away with it....;)

i doubt voda will beat virgins 50c out of bundle rate anyway

I also doubt if VC will beat, or even match, VM's 50c/Mb, but it will be great if the price can at least be better than the current R2/Mb.
At least on Voda we can use 3G which is still much faster than EDGE.
(I'm not mentioning HSDPA, coz where I stay, ave HSDPA I get is no faster than 3G :( ) ... but, if we can get that improved too.....

i suppose we gotta keep in mind the contracters and bundelers.... if prepaid gets cheap Mbs, the guys who commit to big amounts evry month will also want cheaper :)

I think at the root of it all, we should blame Telkom, as the biggest 'importer' of bandwitdh, and seller to ISPs, their high prices prevent the other guys from reducing theirs. And we know they've got a finger in the VC pie.
So come on Telkom, how 'bout another price reduction :p

All Vodacom needs to do is give us carry-over. Then you buy 1 GB of data for R400 (3G only of course) and pay 40c a MB without worrying when it will expire, as long as you have an active time window of course. This will lead to better load distribution over time as there won't be a frantic download frenzy just before expiry.

It is another opportunity for Vodacom to be "first" with another customer demanded feature for their products.

I'll second this :)

And I will third it, indefinite data carry-over would be excellent both for customers and for the stability of Vodacom's data radio networks.

While I think carry over is a good idea, in my case, I only use VC or MTN for when my DSL line is off (never happened yet) or when I am not at home. So, I would prefer a (much) cheaper flat rate like Virgin's.

If you've been following this thread you'll know that Vodacom's policy is to make all data bundles the same price, contract ad-hoc and now pre-paid.

So PPDB will be priced the same as contract and ad-hoc. This has been communicated numerous times. So a 1G bundle will cost you 50c/Mb, but you can obviously get HSDPA speeds. It's a better price/performance ratio than 50c/Mb on GPRS/EDGE.

This does not mean there won't be any reduction in the future or new price tariffs based on other criteria, but you're not going to see it with the PPDB launch.

This keeps getting / sounding better and better :D

hoor hoor! A carry over will get my vote, as that must be my biggest problem with a big bundle. This use it or lose it system doesn't work, many times it just results in guys just downloading anything before expiry for the sake of not feeling like you've lost munny if you have unused (paid for) megs that will be chucked.
I'm sure with a carry over, VC (all the ISPs) will actually benefit from more data usage, i.e. more profit, as you can decide yourself when u wanna download, and not choose not to download something now, as you might go outofbundle this month, and then next month loose out due to low usage.

I would have done
... "just downloading anything before expiry for the sake of not feeling like you've lost munny " ....

If only I knew on the last day of the month weather I am not actualy on my limit yet .. with the delay in Vodacom4Me showing the usage, I often loose out lots of megabytes on my add hoc add on bundles .. too scared I will pay R2.00 per MB.

Maybe they should add a special APN that disconnects the moment the bundle runs out

don't u get the sms's from VC??
Yesterday, while hanging on for an operator on dialing 082155, I memorised the recording playing over&over ..."...when u have get a databundle, u will receive 2 free sms's from VC, one to notify you that your databundle is getting low, and another to tell u that yoru bundle has just run out..."
