that is how I see it though, but some can argue that Pretoria's previous names were Pretoriusdorp, Pretoriustad and later on Pretoria when the Rupibliek was formed.

( Obviously It was founded on the farm "rus den ouden" that Pretorius lived on ( appreantly some black guy pissed against a tree there and called it Tswhane )

Next they can take on the Port Elizabeth bunch that insist on calling the city Nelson Mandela Bay. That's also the name of a municipality that includes quite a few towns. But some insist on using NMB, just to be difficult.

Therefore: Getting rid of the name Pretoria is another way of changing the past / removing traces of apartheid. So actually just getting rid of anything afrikaans will sort out the NR's (New Regime) problem.

I moved to Pretoria in 1988 from Durban and have been very happy here.

And they can call it what they want I'll still live in Pretoria.
