I recently made the switch from electrical shaver to a manual razor. I've been noticing that I'm getting razor burns/bumps in the past couple of weeks...maybe I'm shaving differently or my skin is not use to it. Does anyone have ideas or techniques in preventing razor bumbs? I've heard getting some shaving oil and applying that before the shaving cream/gel works.

I'm currently using Nivea sensitive gel and Gillete Blue 3 razors.

I hate Nivea products, absolutely hate it. Any Nivea product gives me rashes, weird eye rash problems (the deodorant) and the list goes on.

I use either Gilette Shaving foam or gel, or any other brand except Nivea. I don't have any razor burns or bumps and shave with the basin filled with warm water to rinse and shave. That's about it.

:)

Use prep once or twice a week as shaving cream

And here I wanted to recommend that you switch to an electric shaver.... :)

dont shave against the grain

4 tips that will (should) take care of the shaving rash:

1. Wash your face (with soap) before shaving
2. Apply shaving cream generously
3. Don't shave against the grain
4. Make sure the blades are sharp

Unless you're actually allergic to something in the shaving cream, the brand doesn't really make that much of a difference.

I have tried everything, every shaver, every cream, gel, whatsoever, I always got razor burn. Got sick of it and bought a cool beard trimmer, I'm wearing my designer stubble ever since ;)

I wash face after shaving.

I wash face after shaving.

A good rinse afterwards should do the job just fine as well. What people tend to forget is that the skin oil and general "dirt" contributes to the rash. I used to get it as well, until I started washing my face before the shave. No more rash. Luckily I figured this out quite early on.

I use an electric shaver but I also use an after shave lotion from the body shop, may sound a bit girly but damn it works well.

Its a cream, not toner like normal shaving lotion.

I've just found that any razor will work, just as long as you use a face wash before, and then a good aftershave :). I shave in the shower though... (if I don't shave in the shower, my skin gets really sensitive.)
