Printers for under R1200

well i dunno mre

i get far more copies outta laser mono and colours printers than i ever did with my old inkjet/crapjet printers

they are faster last longer and cost less per page than inkjet
I agree ;) The Samsung CLP 300 is a great little printer to use, it's color ;)

Use inkjets if you want to give your money to a useless time wasting cause, or get a laser and save yourself some time and money.

Does the resolution really matter? AFAIK Samsung are nearly all 600x600 (and don't attract good reviews).

More like 1200x600 ;) Samsung lasers are the cheapest printers for part replacements (I know, I worked as a printer tech for a month) and their servicing is a breeze, take off plastic cover and blow out with a compressor or something with a bit more airpressure ;)

How much do these laser printers usually cost?

Hey thanks, any idea how long the toner lasts for and cost of toner replacement>?

Check at the bottom of the printer page of Sybaritic for the cartridge yields, mostly it's more than 1000 pages. Take the Yield, and divide it by the cost and then you'll see how many cents per page it is, work it out and see if it's financially viable.

Laser toner don't "dry" out like HP ink (Canon ink don't dry out either), but have a look at the toner prices for the CLP 300:

Cheapest place I've found it yet:

Game charges near R2k

Edit: Resolution is 2400X600
I also get a bit sus when I see words such as
"Up to 2,400 x 600 dpi effective output". If this were the 'true' resolution, then why wouldn't it be 1200x1200? They must be using some sort of enhancement technique here.

It looks nice though, and there is a network capable model - the 300N.

No duplex capability either... guess you are getting a small colour laser so you pay the price for it not looking like a bread-bin:eek:.

All tastes differ I say. For that price range you really can't expect a duplexer included, duplexers are near R1k themselves. Samsung's like I've mentioned are good value for money, but you need to work out if you can afford it ;)

Well this is the week where I am going to look what I can get in the field. Since my Lexmark Z22 is pretty much dead

Some nice laser printers out there atm. Network printers are however brilliant. To print via WiFi is amazingly handy.

Thanks for advice guys I might end up getting a HP Deskjet F2180, for about R500

Cool man ;) I hope you get one that's cool. See if you can't get a Canon in that price range, HP ink really does dry out if not used ;)

I finally got the HP F2180 for R670.. Its a really great multi-Purpose machine, Scans (flatbed); copies and prints... Damn it rocks
