pro vista

yes retail version why ppl waste money on retail is beyond me

retails 1.5k or more than eom or dsp version which work exactly the same :)

lol paying the kinda money for retail is crazy

well ziggy look at 8800gts its 179 dolla around 1.4k yet in south africa you wont find then under 4.5k

microsoft office is the biggest scam, what is new? nothing
everything is renamed and relocated and makes your life alot harder now :)
I actually quite like Office 2007 (specifically Excel). Because you have about a million lines (instead of the stupid 65000 on 97 - 2003) you don't have to try doing spreadsheet type calculations in Access or break one data set up into 10 different sheets. VBA calculations are run using as many threads as the CPU can handle which means that a calc that used to take 10+ minutes now finishes in around 6 on a dual core.

Getting used to the interface is a bit hard if you use a mouse, but the keyboard shortcuts mostly work just like they always did.

Killadoob, maybe i should bring some back from singapore ;)

*EDIT: just checked out the prices over there for 8800. Looking at min R4k...

Serious, cant find it for under R4k on any of the pricelists in Singapore, kinda confusing when you see how cheap everything else is....

OEM/DSP is tied to a machine. Should you change or re-install 10 times that very same license it will stop working. Retail version does not have that limitation. I suppose it isn't an issue for most people but for enthusiasts etc...

8800GTS isn't $179.
The U.S gets the cheapest pricing on par with Taiwan on GFX cards and such things. The cheapest 8800GTS is around $359~$370 including a rebate for $30 to $50 at most places. As for Office I tend to like it. It did take some time to get used to it, but now I can't go back to 03 or XP.

Yes many people may very well hate vista and office 2007, but there's no denying that both Vista and Office 2007 are better than XP and Office 2003.
They are different and I guess it'll just take us getting used to thew way things work in both these programs. Change is good. :D

ek dude apart from the speed dx 10 and aero factor, what is so different about vista?

my computer is now computer. everything feels the same just placed else where or renamed

why couldnt you make a new skin speed it up and sell it to the masses knowning they will buy it?

but still i bought vista because i love new things to play with

I didn't really say anything was different. Just answering the thread, looking for something positive. It is coded better, less bugs and should have less crashes. I would go find you the source, but that would take way too long for my lazy self.

Well you see, before you might have just said "add a new skin and sell it to the masses", now you add speed into it. My positive-ness worked, kinda, I was going more for stability but whatever.

I agree that Vista isn't that much up from XP, but it is a step or two forward and I don't see anything negative about it, its just better. Maybe it doesn't justify the price tag or wait, but I don't know why people get so angry about it. Its mostly an M"$" hate fueled thing.

Oh, and heh.. I never even noticed they removed the "My" from "My Computer". Thanks.....

Vista has yet to scan my computer for files...
I have an active connection most of the time and I am waiting for MS to call or block my PC because I have alcohol installed with disc images and cracked exe files. (I own all original games but the disc swapping is too much)

People are being made to panic over essentially nothing. Do you realize that with XP SP3 they could very well introduce all these *bad* things in Vista to XP. Then what do you do?

They could introduce it in XP sure, I just won't use an OS with that sort of functionality, if that means moving to Linux or OSX then fine.

Unfortunately, every time one of these applications is launched the user needs to approve the application, and like the deletion scenario this gets increasingly redundant as the same applications are reused day in and day out.

In the defence of the UAC, on the shortcut of the application you want to use, you can select Properties, and under Compatibility there is a "Run as administrator" tick, and then you only need to allow the application to run, which is one click.

That also helps set programs as defaults. Had to run both thunderbird and firefox as administrator to get them set as default.

The DRM aspect, MS scanning your computer for files etc. doesn't bother you?

I have also never seen or felt any effects of this. If it was scanning my files it would have found that just about everything is fake/pirated, including Windows itself.

DRM mostly relates to Premium Content that you buy, which cant be fake anyway, they just want to stop you sharing it.

So no, it doesn't bother me at all.

Vista has only recently been released, just because it hasn't been activated or used yet doesn't mean it won't be. Now I'm starting to sound like a conspiracy theorist. :D

I've had Vista on my PC for almost 2 months now (RC2) and I must say, it is a excellent OS. Only problem was my games, but since Monday's updates (there where 24 updates just after Vista's release) I am able to play any game I want...Oblivion, Company of Heroes, BattleField 2142 etc etc...high end games.

All my softwares is supported by Vista and there is nothing I need more that won't work on it.

Me thinks, I'm hooked:p
