Problem with LG DVD Recorder RH7624W

Hi I got the above dvd recorder.
Everything was perfect until the dvd playing/recording part stopped working.
DVD's I wrote with this recorder stopped working i.e. not playing.
When I insert any disc in the drive the logo at the top just spins it ejects.

Any advice guys???
I dont want to take it into the store as yet as they say I could lose all my data if I send it in for repairs.

Do you mean if you take your pc in, they don't guarantee that after they work on your cd/dvd drive, they ain't going to wipe all your data off your hard drive? What kind of monkeys are they???!!!
The drive, plainly, is poked. Tell them you want a new one.

I know of at least 5 people with LG 7624W machines who's DVD drive is not working anymore !!!!

I got a quote from LG - R1300+ to replace the DVD drive.

It is not worth it. You can almost get a new machine for that price. But I am not going to buy LG machine again !!!!!

What I did was:
  • Bought another DVD player (I got a nice machine from Phillips for R600)
  • Use my LG ad a HDD recorder only. (No DVD).
  • If I want to transfer recordings to a DVD, there are 2 options:
    1. Stream a recording via a video capture device to a PC and create the DVD on the PC
    2. You can also transfer all your recorder material to your PC. This requires you to take the HDD out of the LG machine and install it on a PC IDE bus. You require special software to read the LG's HDD.

I know that both ways to transfer video to a PC are a schlep. Ultimately, I would like to build up a Home Theater PC. If its DVD drive pack up, the replacement cost would be R300 or less.

Does anybody have another more elegant solution. Unfortunately one cannot replace the LG's DVD drive with a PC's DVD drive.

Duh. I am a dufus. My bad. Didn't realise this was a standalone machine. I thought we was talking pc's here, but now I see that we're in the tv and multimedia section.

I bought a sony player a while ago when the lg was showing withdrawal symptoms.

It just leaves a bad taste in my with lg.
How can I buy any of their products again? My extended warranty expired in Feb this year. How cruel is that. They(Kay Makan - Expert Stores) wont even even talk to me without stating the cost will be expensive to repair.

Can you guys recommend any good dvd software for my pc?
Is Nero 9 the best on the market?
 
Lost 3 LG DVD recorders like that in 1 year

Switched to SONY and its never skipped a beat


Bought a cheap LG DVD player a while ago for a holiday trip and it started giving disc errors after 2 months.

Wont buy any LG again
 
Sony RDR-HX720 HDD Recorder

:mad:My machine is now 2 yrs old and I am experiencing continuous problems with it. I get a blue screen frequently and can only cure it by switching the power off for several hours and then switch on and if I'm lucky it will work again for a short while. I can be watcing a recording and all of a sudden the screen will get all steaky and turn blue at which time I can't access even the menu.
Sonyarent much help and thier repairs agents in PE are Mastercare who eventuaal when i got someone to pseak to said it could be the HDD.
Any help with either replacing the HDD or anyone who has had a similar experience HELP, HELP please.
 
LG RH7624W (and in general) is CRAP...

Yes, i also bought an LG RH7624W a while ago, and then the DVD read/write stopped working :mad:. Local repair shop had it for 3 months and then said it will cost R1600 to replace laser (supplied by LG)!!!! How stupid! My LG Home Theater system also stopped reading DVDs and even ORIGINAL music CDs won't play. :( I purchased a Taiwanese/Korean (?) cheapie (R399) DVD player from Cash Crusaders, which reads any kind of disk, USB sticks and SD cards, with full 5.1 Surround Sound and optical audio output. Works 100% so far...even DVD-RW and +RW disks.

I now use the LG Home Theater as an amp...which is also crappy as you only have preset audio options (3D, Matrix, Movie Theater, Soft, Classical, etc) but no individual bass & treble control. So sound quality is not very good, but that is actually a total different post! :sick:

The writer i managed to get working by opening up the unit and vacuuming and blowing the dust and stuff out, and fiddling with the laser arm. I know...not very technical! :wtf: Now i can write DVDs from the hard drive, but also still cannot play back any DVDs???? even ones i just burned with the unit??? It also still does not read any other disks...CDs, rental DVDs, nothing. When i got it i could write on DVD-RW and +RWs, but that i still cannot do even though it writes normal DVDs. This would suggest that it is not necessarily the laser itself that is faulty as LG tells me, but an alignment problem, which i am sad to say is out of my technical expertise to fix. So if anyone has experience or instructions how one can re-align the laser head it would be greatly appreciated!

I also will not EVER BUY ANY LG PRODUCT EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!! Maybe we can start a "LG, its NO GOOD" campaign...:p

LG DVD RECORDER WON'T STOP USING TIMER RECORDING

I have my LG DVD Recorder for almost 8 years now. Use it occassionally to record my TV stuff and watch it snails pace when I am not too busy.

I have a major issue that is of concern that is: When I set the timer to record, it will not stop at the designated time because I have to manually press stop at the power button and WHEN I do this I obviously lose the file I was recording.

The hard drive is also making a clicking sound.

My hard drive still have like 300hours free Recording Space.

Please advise further.
 
Hi all...I have a RH3690se...this is the older dvd recorder with the 80gig hdd. It also suffered the same fate. Not so long ago I got the price for a laser assembly for the unit. It was around R600. Its a simple plug n play...like swapping a pc dvd writer. If u search hard enough, there is a altervista site with all the software and hardware hacks available. I just bought a logik hd dvd player as I am going to build an htpc to do the job...Good luck people....LG SUCKS!!!

What software did you use or refer to here - I have a machine I need to extract the data off the HDD - luckily I have a IDE HDD caddy
