What's going on Vodacom?

For the last 3 years, I've used Vodacom as my means to connect, gradually Vodacom has been getting more reliable and faster. However the last few weeks, there seems to be issues.

This weekend, international sites were too slow to access, last weekend, I was getting 30% packet loss on all sites. The weekend before that, constant signal loss. When Speedtest.net fails to load, surely there are issues then?

I'm in the Sundowner area, this weekend full signal, last weekend, 75% signal. The weekend 3 weeks ago, constant signal loss. I use my B970, with an external antennae.

So I slot in my MTN sim, and everything is fast again, however I far prefer to use my Vodacom one as the latency is far lower on Vodacom than MTN. MTN I get up to 3.5Mbps on Speedtest, Vodacom, 1.5 on a good day. The lower latency used to make Vodacom the preferred one. (160ms pings MTN, 80ms Vodacom) But with the timeouts I get on Vodacom now, I'm not sure anymore. Tell me you've found issues for the area and they are being worked on?

I'm finding it a bit sucky today, timeouts and poor throughput...

But generally pretty good, flying over the weekend, using my DSL account now so I'm not hampered or handicapped by the poor form of Voda 3G today..

The problems are back again.

Cant even connect to Honeydew tower with my antenna.

speed.vodacom.co.za to radiokop tower:
Download Speed: 132 kbps (16.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 56 kbps (7 KB/sec transfer rate)

Same thing today. I cant connect to Honeydew this afternoon but I can connect to Radiokop, which drops every 5 minutes.

vodacomdata there are some towers capable of 12meg/s down and 2meg/s up right?im only asking coz of the strange things that happen at midnight.thx.

strange things like downloading 6meg files in 3seconds very low pings 70-80ms and my mdma saying the profile is not 3.6down and 1.4 up but 12meg/s down and 2meg/s up .

Its late... you're tired... are you sure that's what you're seeing? :p

i only notice it when looking for the cause of lag when im on battle.net .my antivirus is usually off so is my firewall.but the mdma app which is accuarate keeps chaging between the above profiles.

Hi therock

What happens when doing a speed test and connected on 3G only with MDMA software ?

That's impossible. You'll need a modem capable of 2meg per second and there's none in the world @ the moment. The file was probably cached on your machine
already.

the mdma software checks assigned profile by the tower unlike windows that detects your modems capability.will do a speedtest at midnight as thats when the strange things happen.

Hi VD, yes, still issues as of last night.

Hi Brieuse

Pulled a log on the connection behavior i can see that you are connecting to the 3G cell on the Sundowner tower. Will escalate to networks to do an analysis on the tower as well will pm the ref number.
