Projector or 42" lcd

Pics are coming today brawler took them over the weekend.

No light is no good for projectors, i could not put this in my room with block out so i had to put it in my lounge for the moment with blinds and when the sun shines through i can still watch tv but darkish movies are a big no no, i watched cricket and soccer fine with a bit of sun coming through the closed blinds. I don't think any lens will deal well with light. If you want a projector and watch alot of tv in daylight hours you need to ensure your blocking out alot of the sun.

Block out curtains are not to expensive, buy the material and get someone to put sow it for you.

Look guys, it all depends on your screen gain whether you can watch in lighter rooms or not. A greyer screen will be better suited for the living room where you don't want blockout or blinds. A lighter screen is perfect for a batcave like bedroom but I can still watch DSTV with the light on in my bedroom without too much hassle on a white screen.

Also let's face it, you don't want the sun shining on your CRT or LCD either. It spoils the picture although to a lesser degree than on a projector screen.

Also depends on what fabric the screen is made of as well or what paint you use.

Thanks. Question is, would a 2400 ANSI lumens projector really deal any better with the sunlight?

Yes, the higher the lumens the better the picture in light environments.

If you use a painted wall you're going about it all wrong...except of course if you use special paint mixes like Mississippi Mud, Behr or Screen Goo. Then you have a dedicated screen but otherwise you won't get maximum value.

Ok i am not good with camera, the pictures i took of the dark images came out badly hahah but anyhow here is some. You cannot watch a movie when its light in the room, but cricket, soccer etc anything with a bright backround is fine.

I was in game today buying a fridge and i walked past the tv section where i saw a 46" lcd and i thought wow it looks so small, although they had a blue ray movie and OMG the quality is just amazing, then i saw another 46" playing a dvd and the quality actually looked worse than the projector. The one was 17999.00 and the other one 20999.00, i am going to a buy an hd divx player and try a .mkv file on the projector :), all i know is i have a 72" with decent quality from dstv that seems to look better than a 46" lcd for 5k. Ok make it about 7k because i need to add the block out curtains to the lounge :).

Very nice! ;)
A real neat look but the blinds must be a nightmare if you have an open window.
I can imagine it looking damn nice to have the picture hanging mid air in the total dark.

You'll be amazed at the picture quality from mkv's. The pic I posted is from a mkv of Man On Fire.

BTW If I recall blockout material was cheap and for R2000 you can probably drape your whole house :p

Buying this projector is killing me :)

So I've decided I need 2000+ lumens for the room it will be in, that takes me up to R7600 (for XGA), now I see Makro has a 32" Sony LCD for the same price?

Ideally I'd like to see both setup in the room and decide that way! This is taking forever, now nowhere I phone has stock.
I'm going slighty mad!

The problem with a 2000 lumen projector for R8K is that your blacks will be ****e. Those projectors are designed for presentations, not video. So if you want it for video, either get a dark room or an LCD.

Dude why not just buy this projector and just buy black out curtains.

You want to buy a 32" lcd for 8k? for 8 k you can have a 72" screen plus block-out curtains :)

Ok granted the 32" lcd will have a crystal clear picture but it will be very small compared to 72" :)

I dunno this is the best decision i have ever made :)
/zeb you da man :p

This just complicates my spending decision...

It was either a new lense for my camera.. or a waterproof camera.. now i have to add this damn projector to my list...

Problem is the wall mount. It will look mighty silly hanging from the ceiling in a wall mount configuration.

:D Tell me about it. I had all but forgotten the new "TV" idea of mine...

Now the Acer P1266 looks good. Digital Planet has them for R6689, which looks too low (I got quoted R12 000 by another shop)

Ya that does look nice, 6689 does sound a bit to cheap though :)

Digital planet has a dodgy record as well, dude see if you can get it at that price because i just phoned one of my acer suppliers and that price is cheaper than them by quite some margin.

Here is my predicament, room is light, but biggest problem is the lack of a wall or anything else behing the couch.

Hi Killadoob,

Yes we did have issues in the past but we have really made a fantastic comeback in the last year and I think that if you give us another chance you will see that :)

Have a great day!

Dude i checked your picture all you need is table because that lg can stand anywhere :)

Screw the screen into the roof like i did but that light, even a 220 lumens i think will struggle. alot of light in that room :p
