Projector Screen Alternatives?

Ok so here's how it's done:

I only used 2 of the brackets to mount my projector. Ignore the other brackets, I just screwed them on for safe keeping. The one highlighted with the red circle is the 1st screw in front and the one with the green circle is the back one. The back screw on the oposite side is screwd on the oposite end on the same bracket as the green one. The projector doesn't screw directly onto those brackets. There's a spacer between the projector and the bracket. Spacer screws onto the projector and bracket gets screwd onto the spacer:) Does'nt look very neat but you dont even see those brackets from the bottom

You have exactly the same bracket as me... :)

I got it on eventually using one bracket... Think I prefer your way though... I'll try tomorrow.

Thanks for the photo... hopefully I can get mine on.

Check the other thread in 10min for pics of my current "in progress" installation

Lol I also struggled initially to get those brackets right, but eventually figured it out after like half an hour. I initially wanted the propper Optoma bracket but the store where I got my projector from said they dont supply them here so I had to settle for the universal one. I must say the position of those screw holes on the projector is really poorly designed. I suppose its because they want you to buy the Optoma brackets

I think a few projectors use the same layout... you actually get a universal triangle plate.

I don't think this mount is meant to be used with this projector.

True. I saw one advertised in the Incredible Connection pamphlet that looks pretty cool.

Thats not bad - didn't think of trying there... I'll ask them.

The projector bracket + 10m HDMI cable only cost me R300, so not a train smash to get a better one :p

I just placed an order with them yesterday for HDMI to CAT6 to HDMI.... costing me R800 just to get damn HDMI through my wall conduit.

Do they deliver country wide? I'm getting someone to get it for me

Yip - courier is close to their speed services charge, R110 - for my HDMI converters and 20m of CAT6 cable.

Mine is up - thanks for your pic - it helped with alignment, took me about 2 hours to get it in... purely because it takes about 30min to get in and out of the roof...and I went twice.

Our ceiling unfortunatly cracked about 2cm... I was tightening the nut from in the ceiling with my girlfriend holding it on the otherside, she didn't tell me when it was tight, so I kept turning until the ceiling cracked :p Easily fixable though.

I also see what you mean about the angle :(

I've hopefully got the HDMI to CAT6 converter arriving today, so I can do the conduit wiring, and then I'm all set.

Awesome stuff. Did you mount it onto the ceiling board or onto your ceiling beams?

The angle thing can get really annoying sometimes. The only way you gonna get a perfectly symmetrical picture is if your projector is perfectly level and horizontal. As i said before a lens shifting feature would've been nice. I noticed with mine, if i adjust the keystone settings it adjusts the picture but not the black border around the picture and it irritates me when one side of border is narrower than the other. Hopefully when i get my unit it wont be that noticeable.

Noticed that as well...

I installed a beam across the current beams - then mounted it onto that. Had to make my own bolt heads too as the only bolts I found which were long enough were too narrow, and the washers were too wide. Go figure.

Its mounted pretty solid, I applied about 30kg of weight to the bracket and it didn't budge.

This whole mount is a bit when trying to get it aligned because of the one pipe being quite loose in the other pipe...so when you lock it in place, it moves slightly.

Mine is quite firm. Make sure that the bolt going through both pipes is tight.

I'll check tonight... I'm not good with bolts/screws/etc... no sense for when its tight enough, so I'll keep turning until the pipe is flat :p

I tightened it last night...and didn't want to push it.

Spoke to my other half CATT6 converter is here.... :)

Haven't read this entire thread so in case it hasn't already been mentioned, artists canvass works well as a projector screen.

It hasn't... it seems blackout lining is popular.

I'd imagine artist canvas to be quite expensive?

I tightened mine rock solid - and it still drops slowly over a day or two because of my systems low bass level and vibrations :(
