Projector Screen Alternatives?

I am officially jealous - because I don't think my screen will be that big.

Speaker config looks off - check the dolby site ... it'll make a HUGE difference to sound.

Its a temporary fix until i get the unit built. Dont know much about sound so i'll have to research a bit more on that.

Me either, slowly figuring it out - today I finally found out the difference between bipole and dipole... and that my speakers were on the wrong setting :p

http://www.dolby.com/consumer/setup/speaker-setup-guide/index.html

Haha i only found out after I bought my sound that my speakers could be bi-amped and that did make a huge difference as well as the placement of my sub. Other than that I honestly dont think i'd be able to tell the difference by using different lengths or thicknesses of speaker cable for instance or moving my speakers around a little, you know the things only audiophiles would notice:)

Speaker cable I'm with you...

But I was messing around with placement, and it does make a huge difference, just a couple of cm's made a lot of difference to me... especially if you tuning for one seat position - which I am :p it takes you from good surround sound to actually being part of the movie. :)

I can't wait for a sub :(

bmboy - quick question - what was your projector boxed in?

I think mine arrived, but the girlfriends descriptive powers aren't very good...she says a brown box... and I'm expecting 4 deliveries today :p

Lol she would be correct... Not a bad description... Haha it comes in a relatively small brown box with the optoma logo on either side and a Full HD logo on the top corners if i'm not mistaken.

I just spole to Max on Top regarding their "Designer White" laminate, now called ?Artic White? - they're getting stock on the 15th, priced at R680 for 4.1m x 1.3m.

What would be better as a temp. screen, this or blackout clotch?

OMG - I just realised I was measuring the projected image size using the WIDTH of the room - My room is 5.7m in length, so I'll be projecting a pretty decent size image as well :)

4.1m x 1.3m... Width is fine but you'll need the height to be about 2m and you don't want to join 2pieces together as the seam will stick out like a sore thumb.

I've tried a small piece of blackout lining and honestly i couldn't see a noticeable difference between that and a white wall..

Wont want to paint the wall though, its a temp fix until I can get a decent motorized screen...

Any idea where to get black out lining? I can screw it to the wall in the meantime.

You can get it from a material shop, but its not called blackout cloth, ask for blockout lining. I asked for blackout cloth and they didn't know what i was talking about. I bought a 1m piece for like 50bucks. The biggest piece I've seen is about 2.8m in width and can be cut to the length you want. My screen height is about 2.1m so it should be more than enough.

Thanks - I'll see if I can find a place tomorrow.... first want to get an idea of the screen size.

If I were you I'd buy a test sample 1st to see how it looks. You may find that you prefer the wall. Its all a matter of preference.

Good idea - I'll see how much it costs - dont want to spend more on petrol than the cost of a full size piece :p

Google doesn't help... but I'm sure I can find a material place near home.
