Prophecy sold me a dud pc...

Hi Handz

I'm sorry you are having so many issues. I can fully identify with the frustration of a machine arriving that's not working, and you are completely right in feeling frustrated! Receiving a machine that's not up to scratch reflects badly on us, and we definitely aim to give a better experience than you have had!

I think the problems you are experiencing are a result of one or both of the following factors:

1. The machine took a bump in transit. Unfortunately, this does happen! I've created a note on your order about the possibility of this having happened. Fortunately, in our experience machines handle a bump remarkably well, but if you have any hassles in the future we will take this into account

2. As mentioned to you previously via email, the first P5Q-SE motherboard we received for your system was DOA. The additional delay that this caused resulted in us shipping your machine in a rush, and I think we didn't test the fully built system with the new motherboard as thoroughly as we could have.

We are shipping you a replacement graphics card and replacement memory this afternoon, you should receive them later this week. If this does solve your problem we will then collect the faulty components, if it doesn't solve the problem we will send our couriers to collect the whole machine for you and sort it out.

Otherwise, just to clear something up for some of the other posters: we do not have any problem with our customers opening up their machines, as many of our customers are enthusiasts who want to be able to upgrade / tweak / etc. Obviously, if a component is physically damaged or incorrectly installed (don't forget the standoffs on the motherboard!) this will not be covered by the warranty, but just opening your machine does not automatically invalidate the warranty.

Regards,
Paul Johnston

The guy that delivered the PC to my house is a mechanic or something if im not mistaken. If anyone bumped the PC...i blame him. :)

I must apologise for the way i acted, i was just very frustrated.

I must say though, as soon as i let you guys know about the problem you guys have been very helpful and i can see that you are atleast trying to sort this out.

Thanks again, ill keep you all posted.

Yeah prophecy's service is great, mistakes do happen now and again unfortunately.

Damn, i might just buy from prophecy next time :P

OK,

i got windows and everything installed....but

I cant get the ATI 4850 to work...at all...

When i install drivers, i reboot. As the XP screen goes away the screen turns off...wait a bit, turns on again with a white screen, then goes off again, then it says the GPU or something like that has recoverd from some error and that its not doing what the drivers tell it to do and it asks to reboot. If i do reboot then when it boots up after the XP loading screen it turns the monitor off again and does nothing.

Im at a loss here....

Oh and that happens with latest drivers and with driver CD that came with the card.

Im calling them 9am...im tired of trying now...its 3:50am.
hmmmm have you tried the latest drivers that didn't come with the GPU??? usually the drivers they release with teh CD ONLY supports either 32bit OR doesn't support the card... i.e 4870x2 drivers that shipped with the card just doesn't run the GPU in 64bit...

when i tried the drivers that came with the card it said something like "the drivers you are trying to install are not supported by the hardware".

I did try the latest drivers too, still the same results. So im just going to wait for the replacements to arrive.

Don't all the online stores let you open the system. I thought it was only systems like Prebuilt HP or Acer or something that don't allow you to open. I've never worried if my customers open their pc ... should I :p?

*UPDATE*

Prophecy sent me a new Ati 4850 and new ram.

I sat with a friend of mine who works on pc's and we installed new hardware. Battled like hell to get windows installed, finally got that right and got drivers installed but it just bombs out randomly. So it looks like the motherboard is faulty.

So ive possibly gone though 2 faulty motherboards 2 sets of ram and a gfx card? bad luck or what? cursed maybe? I always seem to get faulty stuff.

Prophecy are sending their courier to get the pc today so hopefully it can be sorted soon.

Perhaps the onus should be on Prophecy now to get it working?
I think you've put in aa lot of effort to fix something that you didn't break

for interest sake hanz; what is the pc's full specifications ?

+1. [-]Tell[/-] Ask them to build a working pc for you and then you will be gloriously happy :p

Im at work now so i cant post all the specs now, ill post tonight when i get home. I sent my windows CD and they offered to install windows and make sure everything is running before they send it back.

I just wana get a working pc back and hopefully it wont take to long. It takes the courier ages to get stuff between myself and prophecy. Living in a small town has its disadvantages.

I think you should run some diagnostics before blaming the motherboard.

Run Memtest86+ first and foremost to test the RAM.
Followed by Prime95 to test overall system stability.
3DMark to test the Graphics card.

Sometimes faulty RAM can look very much like a bad motherboard.

But yeah, don't stress man, it happens, of late I haven't set up a single PC that didn't have some kind of DOA hardware, pretty much RAM is top of the list, followed closely by PSU and motherboard, only thing I haven't had DOA yet was hard-drives (yeah HD's believe it or not) and CPU's.

Goodluck!

This is the second set of ram we using here. So i duno anymore, i dont wana start pulling this thing apart. Id rather just send it back and let prophecy deal with it.

I think that would be the best idea. Fiddling if you don't know what you're doing is just going to lead to either A) no solution or B) more broken hardware.

Agreed ... no need to create more work for yourself.
