So I just called PathCare, you can just come in and get the PSA done quickly, results in 24 hours but they will not interpret them and you have to collect them personally,
I'll head down that route first I think. Haven't had a test for about 5 years and that was the old fingero at the GP, so I reckon it's time to make this a regular occurrence.

Or if you're good enough with Google and have the time to spare, you can do it, but if there's anything you're unsure about you'll still have to go to a doctor anyway...

Or just Google the average safe PSA score for your age group.
But PSA scores go up as you age.
Apparently most men will eventually get prostate cancer in some form...but the difference is that it's not always terminal.
My grandfather passed away at 86 from his heart and the doctor said that he had some prostate cancer but not advanced. Said that most men he see at those age has some prostrate problems and many cancerous but not always terminal. Hectic.

Seriously though. If you do get it is does not necessarily mean that you are doomed.
A ex colleague and relative both got prostate cancer, had treatment / op and are now fully recovered.
And they are both in their 70's.

My father caught his prostate cancer early. They actually picked it up when he donated blood. I remember at the time, he made sure his will was up to date, and the first reaction was "this is the end". He ended up living with it for 16 yrs and eventually passed from a heart attack at 81.
It's actually amazing how many treatment options are available now, compared to 16 years ago. Prostate cancer is very treatable provided you catch it early.
Statistically 1 in 8 men get prostate cancer in their lifetime.

My godfather opted to have his prostate surgically removed and they accidentally damaged one of the muscles. The good news is that his prostate cancer is gone but he now needs to wear adult diapers. This was about 20 yrs ago, and I'm sure the procedure is less risky these days.PS, some details on the op. They used this.

I know they also do a hormone treatment which shrinks the prostate. My dad was on it, and it was very effective at keeping the PSA count low.

This is the way to go. PSA will give you a good idea of whether or not something is awry.
