Prostate test

Thread bump, had my first today. Wasn’t a big deal. Anticipation of doctors and procedures are always worse than the actual event.

This may be useful to some of the older male members so I’ll share…

My PSA has been yo-yoing the past five years which a short course of antibiotics clears up and my GP decided this time I need to go to a urologist.

The diagnosis is good but not what I expected.

I have age related minor prostate enlargement but no bumps or irregularities.

The enlargement is causing me not to empty my bladder 100% when I urinate. The remaining urine is what is causing prostate infections and a PSA increase. It can also cause bladder infections.

So now on six weeks medication to “relax your prostate”.

Anyway, thought it is interesting and worth sharing.

It is and around 40, but they generally do a blood test and if markers are suspicious you get called in.
Unless you're having trouble peeing now

But they were all serious smokers.

Uhmm nope don't think it can, in fact some suggest it might not be good for it.
 
I'm confused, you guy are going for the full treatment vs the blood draw? On a serious note, what criteria merits that?

I use Uromax Co, I don't pee like a race horse every night.

Mine is also enlarged, unfortunately it is what it is, spoke to the doctors and they said it happens to most Males the older they get, doesn't mean prostate cancer but it could be the start.

Prostate Cancer takes years to develop, just got to keep the tests going every year.

Had my first PSA test done this year, probably should have gone earlier in life as I turn 45 in July, but you know, BE A MAN and all that...

It's called a PSA test, the draw blood and test your PSA levels.

If it's slightly higher than normal they send your for a scan etc etc ...

A GP can do it for for you - only if its higher than normal will they refer you to a specialist.

They draw blood and send it off for testing at the labs.

I visit my specialist twice a year for a chronic condition and just had her add PSA to my existing blood tests. Saves me a GP consult, and being poked with a needle an extra time...

Yeah the blood draw one I've been doing pretty much annually since 40 but never the other. But I suppose my markers have also come back clean.

Swollen is not necessarily abnormal. I had a case in my late 30's. Its properly annoying because you feel the urge all the time to urinate and can't, also becomes a bit painful if you can't void your bladder. Some medicine helped reduce the swelling and it went down by itself but if it hadn't I would have had to get further medical help to at least prevent bladder pressure issues.

Last year I was peeing blood, had to go to hospital for the procedure to check it in Feb ( forgot the name )

I had tumors and growths on the tubes in testicles causing me infections and also causing my prostate to swell and bleed, had to have the tumors removed.

Still not 100% but getting there, the Uromax Co helps a lot, also a lot less fluid drinking from 4pm onwards etc etc.

Yeah I know it doesn't mean cancer but I just do what the wife and GP tell me to do, full bloods and PSA everyone January.
