Protesters burn down clinic

Sooooo, coming back to the topic: why burn down the clinic?

I travel to jhb often and you know what's amazing ? I never needed a 4x4 once ! Nope, never encountered a piece of road ever that I was not very easily without any problem at all able to drive over with my run of the mill, middle of the road sedan without even taking any form of precaution or damaging my car. But by the sounds of your post I'm making that all up.I mean so sound really angry so the situation must really be terrible and unlivable ! JHB roads are actually like the surface of the moon !

Drama queen.

South Africa has very good roads. Compared just about anywhere.

Go take a drive in Russia or Eastern Europe or anywhere in Asia other than Japan away from the major highways. That'll set you straight. I obviously don't need to mention Africa or South America. In fact I bet other than some of western Europe we're right at the top of the pile for having excellent roads. All thanks to our huge public works program.

See John, and here is where you miss the point, we shouldn't need 4x4s because we live in the city so we buy low-profile vehicles with very soft mags. One hole and it's thousands of Rands of damage. Of course I wouldn't expect a little plaas boy, like yourself, to understand how the big city works.

Then again, I guess you don't go to the suburbs when you come here. Either that or that's no "run of the mill" sedan we're talking about.

You guys should be ashamed of yourselves for falling for the troll bait from Therooster (aka Kill-All-Whitey), to him any criticism of the degradation in services and infrastructure is an attack on the ANC and and attempt to smear the ANC and all blacks in SA.
Remember, it is the poor black folks that have been protesting the total lack of service delivery by their very own local authorities, and hopefully they are starting to see that the money is going into these local ANC leaders bling cars and back pockets.

The recent load shedding was not a result of the free power now on offer to the previously disadvantaged (who will remain so under the bling ANC), but as a result of a total lack of maintenance on power plants, poor fuel supply management (wet coal BS), no generating capacity expansion, and totally imbecilic power contracts with neighbouring comrades such as Zim 1.0 and Namibia, where at the peak of the load shedding they shed SA citizens while supplying these two neighbors at below cost, and all this time the ANC bigwigs placed in management positions in Eskum drew huge wages and bonuses.
There's no attempt to curtail the theft of power by those that get this free quota - that's right, they have all bypassed the prepaid meters and enjoy loads of power free don't want to get heavy handed with the electorate !

Most of the skilled white folks in Eskum are foreigners on very high paying contracts, which is their way of working around the BEE/AA regulations - they also have a few skilled black engineers from the US, who have now been threatened with deportation because they blew the whistle on this scam.

You recall why the Cape was load shed? - because of unskilled workers doing a turbine/generator overhaul left a bolt in the generator casing on one of the two nuclear units at Koeberg - remember the ANC "save face" sabotage comments by scumbag Alec Erwin (yes he's white) - pathetic bunch of scumbags in the ANC.

Our power cost per unit is no longer one of the lowest in the world, which it should be, and should remain that way seeing as our generating costs are lower because we don't spend what the world does on emission control equipment, and the relatively low fuel cost.

Don't swallow that troll bait !

Thanks goodness for the fail safes built at Koeberg, it may be inconvenient but it does stop dumbasses from irradiating all of western South Africa.

Well said. You're either with us or against us is what apologetic and wanna be apparatchik Rooster is about. Too true.

John why do you even bother? Really?

We have the most expensive electricity in the world, constant blackouts, Eskom is the worst electricity provider in the world. Billions of rands have not been spent on roads for the World Cup, Billions have not been spent on airports, new airports, BRT, Gautrain and regenerating cities. You cant go into town without a 4x4 since we have the worst roads in the world. Mining doesn't contribute less than tourism towards GDP.

Its all just a figment of our imagination.

What I cant understand reading this forum. If South Africa is such a horrible place to live, why not just leave? We have the worst roads in the world, you cant cook dinner without your power going out. If its so bad here spare yourself the aggravation and just leave.

Best roads se voet man.

I took a road trip with some mates at the end of last year. Went in a polo 1.4. We drove from PTA -> Sabie and then back down to Fouriesberg in the freestate. Some of the roads down to the freestate had so many potholes and they were so big we had so swerve into the oncoming lanes just to avoid getting swallowed by them. The only thing the government/roads agency had had put up signs saying "Potholes 8km" etc.

Because its really easy, to "just leave" hey?

I really tend to avoid these types of threads and I am not particularly clued up when it comes to matters political (I honestly only began paying a degree of attention when that maniac Malema entered the fray) but is there something that desperate people can do? I am certainly not condoning their actions, just curious what they are able to do realistically about airing their grievances.

Change their vote?

Are you at least trying to get out? I hope so..

So we pay less for power than most of the world instead of all of the world. Such a terrible price to pay for giving 80% of our people the ability to have lights on at night and not have to go fetch sticks to cook their food ? I can't for the life of me for a second feel any kinship with anyone whop would find this something to get angry about ! Could things have been handled slightly better ? Sure...in a perfect world where Eskom has some Utopian passing of the baton in a totally smooth manner. But the worlds not perfect. So everything considered we all still have affordable reliable power and the sky is not falling. But you're so ****ing intolerant !

I don't get this about some of you who are less than kind about the abilities of black people. You ensure us they have none then you hold them to near impossible standards !

No we now pay actually more than the rest of the world and the reason being that it was more lucrative to get bribes for submarines than for power stations. You need to brush up on your history.

lol

Except for the little fact that they provided zero services to the majority of the population.

Been to the rest of Africa lately? Zero services to all of their population (why do you think they are pouring over our borders?) . Even in the bad days of apartheid black people in this country enjoyed a better lifestyle than their counterparts in the rest of Africa. The decision not to vote for whitey (as put by JohnGalt ) is thus a racist one.

That's not true. They secured the borders for one - the population was safe from the influx of foreigners. Secondly there was a strong police force which hunted down criminals with the same vigour as they hunted down political activists and militants. There were hospitals, clinics, schools, universities, newspapers, TV stations, radio stations, roads, rail links, air travel etc for the black population too - just that proportionately less money was spent on the black population than on the white. However, despite that the life expectancy in apartheid SA for black people was higher than in free African states.

To say ZERO services is revisionist history and not true at all.

South Africa was a utopia back then. Damn these blacks for revolting against the goodhearted white government.

It's not a purposefully racist decision but ordinary blacks do feel victimised by the past and the common perception is that all whites are rich and are arrogant while they indigenous Africans are poor and still downtrodden. However, if the reverse was true and say a portion of SA with a white majority broke away from SA and there the people voted for a white president the reasoning once again being the same as above, you bet guys like Galt would call it PURE RACISM.

SA was not a UTOPIA back then but it wasn't Auschwitz either, nor was it as bad as many African states post independence. The picture was gray and I agree with you that the blacks deserve(d) freedom like the rest of us. The idea however is not to revise history but to say how it really was. Apartheid was immoral but it wasn't also as immoral or bad as the leadership of many an African country at the time.

Close, but not quite correct. We will soon have the most expensive electricity in the world (which goes a long way to explain the R200 return ticket on your new electric train...)
