Well when I get an Achievement I generally try something else. He has already won the repeating achievement.
Let's hope he moves on.

not to flog a dead horse but...
I picked up my PS3 Slim from Incredible Corruption for R3k. While it clearly is not the best media player out there it does a very fine job (streaming through my wired/wireless lan via PS3 Mediaserver). And is a very passable Blu-Ray player, especially for someone who bought it primarily as a gaming console.
You really can't find anything else on the market which rivals it in all those departments, or even comes close at that price point. If I want to play games, voila; I want to watch my DVDs/Blu-ray, voila; I want to stream my media which is all kept snuggly on my internal hard drive so it can be streamed to more than one device, voila.
Yes I'm sure there are better media centres, and Blu-ray players (although I'm shocked you would pay R10k for it?) on a budget as an all in one - it really is the smart choice. Not interested in gaming/blu-ray/media then get separate components if you so wish, but for Joe public, your non-audiophile non video-phile PS3 must surely be the sensible recommendation.

finally a comment that sums up this whole mess, well done superantmd it only took 3 pages for some common sense to prevail, and no i dont own a ps3, still xbox and lens cleaner.

Wash, rinse, repeat ... been there done that.
However, look at the average Joe that buys a Xbox 360 My first next-gen purchase 2 years back.
Owned 400 DVD titles (yes been collecting since 1999) now 600+. Had a standard TV (bought HDTV a year ago). Price of PS3 R5000+, price of Xbox R3000+ ... I plumped for a Xbox 360.
I now own a PS3 but not one BR movie because replacing my DVD collection with BR would be bordering on the insane. It has streaming and all that but I simply put files I want to watch on my TV on USB flash drive or watch off an external HDD ... which can be done on the Xbox 360.
Blah blah blah, console war, Xbox 360 vs PS3, Wii sales vs Sony/Microsoft ... at the end of the day the price point of the PS3 now is within many peoples reach ... very late into the next-gen cycle.
But, if you want to play all the great titles -- it's being a fanboi only owning one console. Hardcore gaming dictates that a Xbox 360 and PS3 must be in your living/TV room. Plain and simple!
So yes ... once again all the soldiers from 'both' camps will mention BR, RROD, exclusives being better on 360 -- exclusives being better on the PS3, 2009/10 being the comeback of the PS3 ... yadda yadda yadda ... but its stupid
and that is my final say on the matter.
Buy what you can afford or the features you need and don't crucify others for the choice they made ...

Great comment! and to anyone who just wants to game and uses the PC as a media centre the Xbox is fine. I am not clued up on media centres and PS3 Mediaservers etc but im amazed at the PS3 straight-out-box features to play any dvd rip i throw at it.Does the Xbox Elite have an updated Codec compatability.... yes i know you can get the updates online but you need to understand my setup is upstairs and the Router is downstairs.
I think the PS3 has a little more swagga than Xbox aswell. I am a previous Xbox owner and i loved it for the 2 months and 2 consoles but the PS3 just seems a bit more flashy and updated? Xbox is still awesome but for a 250 gig bundle + extra controller + blu ray + 2 games i had to go with Sony on this one.....just cant wait for PES2010 this wkend

Perfect summation of the situation... The PS3 is arguably a better media player than the xbox, but given a decent network and a windows PC, the xbox is JUST as good as the PS3 and has a better interface in the Media Center extender capabilities, unless the PS3 can act as a WMC extender as well?
I am in a similar situation as Dolby, (barring the not having a PS3 since there aren't enough games on the platform that I want to play), I have seperate devices for things simply because dedicated devices do a MUCH better job.
My Media Center is now 95% up to the standard I want it to be at... its all indexed and can be cross searched on genre, actor, year, studio etc etc etc.. and the GUI is 100x better than PS3's because its designed to play movies and series... not as an all around device.

Also 100%.... my friend got an Elite the same time i got the Slim and he was abit peeved he never looked at Incredible Connection for the bundle but i still told him the Xbox market is grand! So many ppl with them so the games will be easier to trade and there will always be a need for them. Plus i told him Gears is amazing plus Animeworx have some damn good specials on cheap games. in the end of the day we all win no matter what console you have.
The way some ppl go on like Fanbois makes you think thier father is Bill Gates or the Sony chap (whatever his name is )

The 2nd-hand 360 games market is more mature than the PS3 but it is evening out as time goes on.
Makes it cheaper on the pocket too ... no way anyone but multimillionaires can buy all games at retail on release.

One thing I have notice is that games seem to get cheaper on the xbox quicker over time than the PS3. I saw RA3 going for about R300.00 new for the xbox and still at about R599.00 for the PS3. WTF!
If you have R4500.00 to spend, the value you get with your money is spent will be on the PS3. If not, the xbox 360 is the way to go especially if games is the only thing you want to play on the console.
