PS3 pricing (and Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD)

So if I need to buy a car to get me from point A to point B only I should purchase a large 10 ton truck because I'll get more features for my money? Never mind the fact that I have no need to move heavy loads and am perhaps unwilling to spend that much money?

What a stupid analogy? So you may/can buy cheap and substandard. Cool. You may exercise your consumer right and buy something else. Anyone that knows PS2 would have known what the PS3 have to offer. Thus what was your complaint about again?

@NoADSLyet: Now after your pathetic comments were deleted by the moderators earlier I should not actually bother arguing with you any further, but I'm feeling generous so I'll entertain some more of your fanboy ramblings:

Clearly you are ignoring the point of my analogy or just plainly don't get it. Why pay for something you don't need when there is cheaper (and I would suggest better) alternative if your intention is to buy a gaming platform and not some mad cap one-stop media player?

Oh yes, another thing...the PS3 is not the PS2 since it is aimed at being a media player first an gaming console second. The PS2, which I own and love, is a gaming console first like the Xbox360. Your blatant love for all things Sony/Playstation is blinding you to that fact.

Whatever tickles your fanny!
I got it, loud and clear. Unlike some I can read and comprehend at the same time or instance. Fact is it remain a stupid analogy, your clarification makes some sense but just missed the whole point of the thread topic header. Sony does not give you what you do not want, they offer a package superior to anything in the market and with your attitude they would rather pay you to purchase a Xbox to safeguard their own souls. It is a factor of market choice. Some buy the superior product and are willing to pay the extra others would only want to play games and choose to buy the XBox. Yet then they bemoan the fact that others prefer the better option.
The point remain that The Blu-Ray addition makes is a far more advanced piece of technology. Ditto. Secondly Sony clearly punts it as the de facto futuristic media center that can also play games. Fact remains that for the money, specially the new scaled PS3 version, PS3 is better and Microsoft have nothing to punt except Halo, Now they scrable to add a HD player at some price and then the comparison becomes so much more obscure as they would have to give it away free to compete. So there you have it. Take that crystalball of that head and think with it for a change! Stop trying to second guess my modus operandi as you are failing miserably. So you may make your choice and buy the Xbox, that does not suddenly change the fact that the PS3 remains a better technological deal. A true Media center at that and not only a half baked gaming console . Not everyone is just into games, some people have a real life and live it! others like to get lost an a synthetic life of imagination. They never grow up!

bwana, please DO NOT close this thread. We're attacking each others arguments, not getting personal so please don't apply the padlock to this thread I beg you.

Oh my f...

MS have nothing but Halo? Are you serious?

I'll ask you again, aside from the Blu-Ray player, you say the PS3 still trumps the 360 technologically speaking, please post specs and prove it. There have been HUGE threads going in the early days when this console war was still new and it's well known that both consoles have their respective strengths.

As for the last part of your post, it has nothing to do with the discussion so I'll ignore it.

It makes it a more advanced media player (when compared to a 360 sans HD-DVD addon), yes. As myself and others have mentioned it fails to compare in terms of it's GPU and RAM capabilities and so far has not proved itself in gaming terms

Secondly Sony clearly punts it as the de facto futuristic media center that can also play games. Fact remains that for the money, specially the new scaled PS3 version, Microsoft have nothing to punt except Halo
I'm not a Halo fan myself. My decision to purchase a 360 hinged on the fact that it has proven to be the superior gaming platform. That fact has not been disproved with any PS3 game released to date. *Que speculation about future PS3 releases*

So there you have it. Take that crystalball of that head and think with it for a change! Stop trying to second guess my modus operandi as you are failing miserably. So you may make your choice and but Xbox. that does not suddenly change the fact that it remains a better technological deal. A true Media center at that and not a half baked gaming console only.
Yes, thats right repeat yourself once more and fail to produce any proof contrary to my own.

The PS3 is a half baked gaming console as too much attention has been given to making it a media center. Thats what I love about you Sony fanboys. You'll continue to make points regarding the PS3's media playing capabilities when arguing for it as a gaming platform

Not everyone is just into games, some people have a real life and live it! others like to get lost an a synthetic life of imagination. They never grow up!
...and playing movies on your almighty HD setup is supposed to be some indication of a real life? Seriously your arguments and accusations are becoming weaker with every post you make.

Theo Read back all the threads I posted. From the nappy brigade arguments I stated clearly that the Blu-RAy makes the PS3 the better device. As for graphics and game play I stated there are peeps on both side of the fence. I claimed and still do so that the PS3 with the Blu-Ray justifies the price compared to the XBox as that makes it a better product/package. Thats a fact and none of you could as yet prove me wrong. If you take the Blu-Ray out, which you cannot, then they are on PAR as you stated. If you add a Blu ray to the XBox and then adding the cost You may be on par at the higher cost bracket again. Now that also cannot be done as Yet. So you end up comparing games, where you already stated both is on par and then you are left with the Blu-ray V HD argument and as we saw that war is already been decided. So now that Sony dropped the price inclusive of a Blu-RAy player my money is with PS3 as opposed to the Xbox. I will buy the Xbox so my grandchildren have something to play with but guarantee you they will soon take over the PS3 with eye toy and forget the Xbox as an paperweight! The major reason why the nappy brigade was against the PS3 was game titles availability. That will change soon as with the PS2 and where will Xboxy be then? Mmmm. Enjoy Yours as PS3 will soon overrun it in all areas!

It makes it a more advanced media player, yes. .

Thanks for the acknowledgment. The argument is now settled as that is what I stated from the nappy brigade argument. I always maintained the same opinion and viewpoint it is the others that ignore the real situation and facts!

Please read the edited version of that quote.

Is your memory that short that you can't recall your own arguments? Do you not recall making claims that about the PS3 supposed "better graphics", "superior technology" (outside of Blu-ray), etc?

You are the only one ignoring facts. I have posted facts, you on the other hand have not posted any for me to ignore.

My name isn't Theo in case you're wondering, those are actually my initials (kinda..:D).

Blu-Ray doesn't make the PS3 a better device, it just makes it a game console that has a builtin high definition movie player, that's all.

The war hasn't been decided yet. I'd really love for this damn war to end as it's a battle over consumer formats and it;s being slugged out by the heavyweights and it's basically money that's gonna decide who wins and who loses, not the consumer.

Anyway, I've read tons of threads on dedicated gaming forums and if pure power is all you go by then neither console wins. If you go by online play, 360 wins. If you go by the games library the 360 wins although that may change this year, Killzone 2, LBP and GTA IV are all massive titles for the PS3.

Also, what would your view be if Bill Gates announced that the Xbox would now come shipped with a built-in Blu-Ray drive, would you still say the PS3 was more...technologically advanced?

PS3 pricing (and Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD)

I see nothing in the topic re gaming. I see Pricing and Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD.

Anything else? Please? You all quoted the gaming is on par! So what was the rest of the issue then? Mmmmm!

Grasping at straws again are we? The PS3's price is obviously determined in part by it's value as a gaming platform so the discussion is warranted. Also bare in mind that you had mentioned this aspect of both consoles in the first pages of this thread:

The PS3 is now a HD device, TOP market, the XBox is not. Its just a games console and a cheap one at that too. The WII is worth more. The PS3 has better graphics too I believe! So please instead of opening anothe Xbox v PS3 mudsliging thread YOU post facts!
PS BTW To buy the Xbox just to play HAlo is stupid! Like with Blu-Ray the PS3 will win the mass war just as PS2 did with the OLD XBox. The old PS2 sells like hot cakes atm because of price and avaiability. The PS3 have Sony backup that will make it win. Do not take my word for it Look in clasifieds and see how many 360's is already for sale!
I'd like to once again point out that you offered no evidence for the claim in bold.

Now on both counts.
Theo was an error (Good one tho)
I knew someone will at last grasp the issue. That is as I stated MY defacto point from the beginning. IF, yes maybe IF. Until then my opinion does not waiver. Yet again at what price then? Still, just for your info I am a MS fanboi, was always and for ever will be. But when it comes to technology that is a different matter.
I always want the better product and for ME the PS3 is the clear winner. BTW I own none of them AS I am happy with the PS2 my kids play ATM. BUT I am contemplating getting a PS3 for the fact that it is the better technology that will please my Kids and my own requirements (Home theatre Media centre) at the same time.

Game over, we win. :) Let's have that quote framed. hahaha, have a cookie.

You still haven't answered my question though: If the XBox 360 had a built-in Blu-Ray player, would you consider it more technologically advanced than a PS3?

Simple question that requires a simple YES or NO?

I see you guys are still going after each other. It's good to have competition, Intel vs AMD, Nvidia vs ATI, Windows vs Linux. What happens when there is no competition.....

anybody want to guess....

you get TELKOM..... so please let there be a Xbox360 and a PS3 in the future so we can have a choice.

Anyone that knows PS2 would have known what the PS3 have to offer.
Exaggerated processor performance. A substandard laser. DVD playback at best adequate. Using it as a DVD player kills the laser much faster. A design flaw that allows it to burn out the laser controller.

I have a PS2. I still play games on it. What it had going for it was the games. Both the Gamecube and Xbox offered superior hardware.

I can't believe you two are still debating anything with him...

Anyway in regard to which console is the better media center the decision is far from unanimous. Yes the PS3 has Blu-Ray but the 360 has arguably the more advanced streaming and media capabilities.

Blu-Ray is still in it's infancy and as such still has a long way to mature, while DVD is already matured and now with DivX and XviD 1080p streaming through the 360 is making a strong case for it being the better media center.

There is also a segment of the industry who are yet to be convinced that Blu-Ray or HD-DVD is enough of a jump over upscaled DVD's to ever be worth the expense.

My humble and honest opinion, choose the console which offers you the best gaming experience for your tastes, no matter what Sony or Microsoft say both consoles are primarily intended for gaming and will be a media center on the side. If you are more interested in movies go buy a Blu-Ray player.

Technology Behind Lair Explained The PLAYSTATION 3 has already been known to support amazing new technologies for next gen gaming and Factor 5 has gone into some depth into what they are being able to provide on the PS3 with their title, Lair. With the Cell structure of the PS3 and the ability for the processor to run graphics as well as working along side the RSX graphics card, Lair will sport some incredible next gen gaming. So far here is a good list of what Lair will be supporting: -Progressive Mesh- * Progressive Mesh is a technique using the Cell to allow incredible amounts of detail to be placed upon many objects, both up-close and far away. -High-Dynamic Range Lighting- * All of the lights, shadows, reflections, and highlights are in HDR, and are done in real-time by the Cell and RSX. This allows for realistic day-time and night lighting. -Real-time Dynamic Physics- * Lair renders physics effects on everything from your dragon to the thousands of enemy soldiers fighting on the ground. All the enemies and allies have their own physics-driven animations, including ragdoll animations. -Real-time Fluid Dynamics- * All of the water effects in Lair, such as waves, are run by real-time fluid dynamics on the Cell. -Parallax Shaders- * Parallax shaders are used on almost every single object in Lair, including fire and clouds. -Real-Time Renderings/Volumetric Effects- * The fire in Lair is rendered in real-time, and has it's own physics. All of the clouds, smoke effects, and even fog effects are volumetric. Lava, rain, wind, fur, and even more are also rendered in real-time. Outside of this technology explanation, Lair is said to be running at 60fps and in 1080p. Gotta Play PS3? At a recent press release, Gotta Play Interactive announced that it will be carrying all titles for the PS3 and Nintendo Wii, and will have them available upon launch day. John P. Gorst, CEO of Gottaplay Interactive, Inc., said, "Both the PS3 and Wii are brilliant next-generation consoles. We anticipate strong demand on titles being released for these new gaming platforms."Both consoles offer a unique and exciting new adventure in gaming. With its built in Blue-ray Disc™ drive; the PS3 will offer gamers an experience unlike any other system. The Wii has also created great anticipation with its motion-sensing remote and is expected to revolutionize the way people play games." For those of you who don't know who or what Gotta Play is, thinking Netflix, but for games. With no late fees, you get from 1-3 games at a time (depending on your subscription) sent to you through the mail. You can then play the game as long as you want, and mail it back to them when you are done. Sony talks Xbox 360 1080p Upgrade Microsoft's announcement that the Xbox 360 will be supporting games and movies up to 1080p was a shocking announcement and left gamers wondering how Sony would react to the news. They didn't have to wait long, for Dave Karraker, Sony's new PR head, only took a few hours to have his say: "It's unfortunate that Microsoft's external HD-DVD drive will not enhance the experience at all for the gamer. Sony realizes that to truly take gaming into the next generation requires a larger data format for both games and movies. PS3 uses the Blu-ray format for gaming, giving developers 50 GB of high-definition storage on a single disc, while Microsoft's 9 GB DVD gaming format is an obstacle for storing HD content. Furthermore, Microsoft's announced HD games patch is really just a compatibility feature -- upscaling lower-resolution content does not make it Full HD (1080p), something that PS3 can do out of the box." Ouch. The PlayStation 3 supporting 1080p has long been a marketing tool for Sony, since the Xbox 360 only supported up to 720p, so it's not surprising that Karraker's statement sounds a bit bitter. Would the Xbox 360's media format, DVD, which can only hold a maximum of 9GB data h

LAIR was a complete and utter disaster, possibly the worst game made this year. Your posting LAIR as proof of your point of view shows how narrow minded and ignorant you are about this entire industry.

Please just stop posting....

With Your intellect at play? Just typical again!
You just come here flaming again with no argument Again as you did against Pitbull. Thats your typical modus operandi and you contribute Fcuckall!

Shows how much you know comparing 50gig INFORMATION FOR processing power on Blu-RAy against an upscaled DVD. Just go read the newspaper and smoke your pipe, whatever you put in there is your problem! :D
