PS3 with a normal CRT TV

I dont care about blueray... dont have hdtv.. nor would i ever buy a blueray movie.....

I thought PS3 graphics far outperformed xbox360? Is that a fallacy?

I'm sorry but that is bullsh1t, and with you budget a xbox with a lcd screen will far surpass the ps3. 22" monitor for R2099 @ www.zones.co.za

(for 3 years in a row it has pawned the Poop station 3 in GFX - doesnt that prove enuf)

if you want to pay more for less then buy a PS3 by all means but if you want to pay less for More then X360 FTW, unless u want to be brainwashed by the clueless,Factless,Brainless Sony zombies (they knw who they are :D) on this forum !

Fisrt of all the graphics are about equal, and it comes down to developers coding properly.

Secondly, 3years, I like how you count a year that the ps3 wasn't even around for.;)

It isn't our fault the sony guys showed us how slow and unrealliable they are from the start

I don't get you guys... he asked a simple question in his first post, no need to start ANOTHER fanboy war!

and @ Dohc-WP - Your article is 2 years old, in your 3rd link if you follow the link to gamespot and read the 1st line

"A solid year's gone by since we ran our last Xbox 360 vs. PlayStation 3 graphics comparison. The differences between the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 have diminished with every passing batch of games"

Ps3 was delayed because of blu ray diodes not because the defs didnt have development kits (they've had the development kits since early 05 so the ps3 launching a year late is not a good excuse for subpar GFX)

3 years counting 2006 (the year the ps3 was eventually launched)
2007 and 2008, gamespot had a comparison in 06,07 and 08 (or isnt that clear enuf)

theStudent : vaguely biased viewpoint from me... but I would suggest saving the R2500... get yourself a xbox, you won't regret it.

The graphics are equal if not sometimes better than the ps3. The online play functionality is better than or at worst about the same as the ps3, and as guys are saying... for the R2500, you can get a decent 22" monitor that will make gaming on either system great, but is obviously unaffordable if you buy the ps3.

Thanks....

Firstly... never knew there were fan bases on game consoles... thought they were all much over muchness...

Only reason I thought of PS3 rather was thought it had a longer life-span before the next version of console...

As for the 22" monitor... would rather wait and get a 40" LCD next year sometime!

So the monitor isnt a concern of yet...

Thanks again for all input!

:)

Well, no ... Same war different thread ;)

@Student The performance of the two consoles is reasonably well matched, but with a slight bias to the lazy ;) In other words the 360 architecture is a lot easier to program for and is often the lead development platform which gives it the edge, although the gap has reduced a lot since a year ago.

The best comparisons are done by Eurogamer http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=163939 , they're the only site that does proper metric test for things like pixel count, framerate, Aliasing etc etc and in 13 comparisons the 360 has won every single one of them, with only a few games (we're talking single digits) going to the PS3.

That's just one point, then there's everything else to consider: Better catalogue, better exclusives, cheaper, cheaper games, better online, better community, better controller. To which the PS3 can answer ... BluRay, so yeah well...

True.. 40" is better...

Tho I have both, got the 22 for my xbox.. and its just become my defacto pc monitor now that I have a 42" lcd.. :)

The consoles lifespans should last equally long as when the next gen console comes regardless of which company, the previous gen is over. They'll both be old news when this gen is over, there is no such thing as future proofing

Read doobi's post - it's a very good answer. I was a die-hard PC gamer up until a few years ago. Beginning of last year I did extensive research into my future of gaming. I studied the new consoles (yes, I even considered the Wii), scrutinized the (then) current and future games, took pricing and support into consideration and eventually settled on the XBOX.

Even with the first batch of XBOXes having the hardware problems, I'm pretty sure if you buy a console NOW you won't be buying one of them. If your console ships with an HDMI port (which it is bound to do), you have the processor with the smaller die, which is less prone to overheat and is MUCH quieter. You also get the BenQ drive, which won't scratch your discs OR have trouble reading many game discs. In other words, the newer batches (post October 2007) of XBOX360s won't give you any noticeable hardware problems. If they do, however, the console comes with a very good warranty along with the support from MI Digital in SA.

You mean the earlier Xbox's were NOISIER than my HDMI Xbox?!

But m$ drop there consoles straight away, while sony still support theirs. Xbox died the day the 360 came out. You can still buy ps2s today.:D
