PS3 with a normal CRT TV

But m$ drop there consoles straight away, while sony still support theirs. Xbox died the day the 360 came out. You can still buy ps2s today.:D

It was dropped for economy reasons , they were still loosing money on xbox 1 sold when they stopped producing it, On the xbox 360 they own the tech and will support it going forward.

O and you can still get madden 09 for xbox. New game 2 years after xbox not sold.

dude you're like walking into all the walls today. there was an interview posted this week with Peter Moore that explained why MS had to drop the Xbox1 so quickly, and Kim Shane is on recording as committing to a long tail of about 7-9 years for the 360.

The thing that you should be most worried about is that the reason he sites having to drop the Xbox early is all stuff the PS3 is now guilty of, and I'm afraid to say, with Sony's well documented and illustrious history of lying straight to their customers faces, it's almost a certainty that the PS3 isn't going to last 5 years let alone 10.

... not having a hard drive in every Xbox 360 was a hard decision, but we wanted to get price under control. The hard drive in every Xbox killed us; we we're still selling it at $199 and the hard drive was like $70. That's why we prematurely left the original Xbox, because the more we were selling – there was still great demand – it was killing us, and there was no way to bring the price down. So in the end we determined at around the 25 million unit mark that we just needed to slow this thing down and just not sell any more, and move to the 360 as quickly as we possibly could. And to this day people still believe we left the Xbox too early but it was purely for financial purposes.

Can you say PS3 HDD? Blu ray? WiFi? 3rd Party RSX? XDR?

was it a custom hdd or a "slot in the machine" special from anyone - coz even though it was a couple of years back, hdds were cheap even then... $70 is pushing it imo. then again, i could be wrong which is why im asking and not stating :)

cheapo does it best - at the current price point, even im tempted to look at the xbox (still the controller is a massive fail, but i could get used to it)

I also thought I'd never grasp the Xbox controller coming from being sooooo used to a PS one ....... but 3 days was all it took to win me over ;):D

The controller is actually really nice - no cramping like I used to get from the PS controller after playing 10hrs straight. :o

I've never cramped up on any controller except the Sega Mega Drive II one.
As for PS controller I'd jus suffer from cold index fingers at night, hahahaha.
Xbox 360 controller = good for shooters and such but SUCKS at fighters.
PS controller = good for fighters and adventure games
it boils down to preference.

$70 for an HDD seems fair for the time. A low end 3.5" is about $45 these days, so that's about $60 for the 2.5"s in the PS3 and 360, no?

Agreed.

I may be grossly generalizing, but what i find is that games (typically 3rd person ones) originally designed for playstation (GTA, DMC, Alone in the dark) seem to have a typical meandering "one stick" type of control scheme that I find completely aggravating (My biggest criticism of GTA4) compared to he "FPSish" Gears, Crackdown, even GRAW.

PS3 80GB bundle

Dude,...all I can say is Go 4 it...I prefer the PS3 over 360 myself and no I'm not planning on starting some flame war. Buy the hardware that appeals to you and what makes you happy. Also if your into Japanese style games I'll def recommend you rather stick with Sony or Nintendo

Why do you say that?
Oh, wait because it has Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery and Blue Dragon, Star Ocean 4 and Tales of Vesperia...oh wait that the 360.

yeah but thats end user prices no? they skip the entire chain and send it from hdd factory to xbox factory. so i doubt that contributed that much to their price...

I've tried time and again to play FPS's on a console and it just doesnt do it for me. To be honest, I don't particularly like anyone of those "one stiock" games you mentioned either. Always prefered the pc for all those games.

However, sports and fighting games, have always preffered the ps controller (for pes in particular) though with the 16 directional d-pad, I might just change my mind. And its those games that I like to play on a console. The trigger buttins just kill it for me (not to mention the size). To each his own, though it would not be a deal breaker (coz I can get PES and a ps style controller for the pc anyways).

You trying to tell me that Xbox has more Japanese style games than the PS3 - even now? I mean those games are good, but no way that it even competes with the PS3. Given time it might be able to, but not just yet.

PS3 got only one JRPG tursty bell (Eternal sonata) released today a year after release on xbox (It got Enchanted arms ) bythis was never released in Japan itself. It will get White knight december. but otherwise JRPG in the Japn market is non existent, where the xbox already have a few.

Heh heh, i'm guessing you hold the controller NES "old school"? ;)

That is in fact the scary truth - the xbox 360 has a ton more Japanese games than the PS3. Not even just big hitters.

Spectral Force, Operation Darkness, Gundam, Battle Fantasia, Guilty Gears2, Culdacept Saga, Katamari Damacy, Earth Defense Force 2017, Zoids, Naruto, Dragonball Z, Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undicovery etc etc

and there's all the Arcade scrollers on Live as well as Rez HD, Ikaruga etc etc

20 bucks says that Level 5's megaton announcement is that White Knight Story is going cross platform ... ;)

Mate, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about.
Please mention the tons of J-games that are available on the PS3?

Wouldn't be surprised if White Knight goes Multi-Platform, but it looks AWESOME. As for all the Japanese games on X360 list doesn't really interest me, you sure you got Katamaru Damacy right? Thats a PS2 title, you probably mean Beautiful Katamari. Most the games you listed suffer from bad reviews. Naruto: Rise of the Ninja was pretty average don't trust Ubisoft to make a Naruto game  Also the japanese games you mentioned doesn't appeal to the japanese themselves only now with the JRPG's. Can't wait to see what Team ICO comes up with for PS3 there games are art pieces

Probably Beautiful Katamari, Same Ball different day ;)

The question was not about review scores, if you look at the percentage "good" Japanese games to bad ones on the PS2 you'll probably find a similar or worse relationship.

Even so, even if you cherry pick, the 360 still has more good Japanese games than the PS3.

Yah cause there aren't much titles on the PS3 in total still. 360 library in general dwarfs the PS3's. True about PS2 Japanese games there were some horrible ones indeed. I think Japs have a certain hatred for the X360 hahahaha

I won't totally disagree with you there. Look at IU, it had the potential to be great, but lacks a degree of polish, leaving it merely "good". I get the impression Tri-Ace took it as an oportunity to experiment with the combat system without really investing themselves in the game.
