PS4 dead

Well jansdejager...

Let's see first of all, you're not me. The idea that you don't do something and that means it's something special I should adhere to by that single reason is not logically rational. It's a type of reverse ad hominem fallacy or an appeal to authority. Yours.

There are also differences in our cases.

Finally yes I would be angry at HP. For sure. But if it was not the only screw up and other makes e.g. NEC, Panasonic, Fujitsu, Toshiba, Sharp, Hitachi, Kyocera and so on worked, I'd be more against the company in question.

BTW did your laptop come from an official dealer? And if yes can I use that to refute your BS argument against using non-official channels?

I see you like to throw R60K away. BTW I own a similar machine which cost a similar amount from a Japanese maker and it still works without a problem. But this maker does not hype up their products. Maybe Bushido is alive somewhere ... like in Osaka. :)

I have also used other brands that worked better, the point is they didn't make 50 million laptops so get a calculator and calculate what your 0.6% is. Just because you had trouble with a laptop and now with a PlayStation, doesn't mean you can just foulmouth a whole brand.

You missed his point. ALL electronics have a failure rate. The things don't all come out perfect from the factory. That's why we have warranties.

You've had one bad PS4 and now suddenly all of Sony is bad.

Get over it.

If that was so they'd not be able to use the Orange TM logo. They have some responsibility.

Then again www.orange.com defaults to orange.com/za

That's pretty much an endorsement too.

Stop trying dude, save your breath. I think Chevron literally gets notifications as soon as someone says something remotely bad about Sony...

This is why I never buy next gen consoles when they just came out. I always wait a couple of revisions.

Nobody has a perfect product that doesn't fail for every so many units...it's simply impossible in mass production.

Why you have such a deep hatred for Sony is beyond me, why you then bought a PS4 is also beyond me.

Look at Microsoft and their Xbox 360's failure rate...now that was a poor product with almost every single launch unit failing.

Sure... sure. First time it's happened to me though, or rather it only happens with Sony products. It's a lousy console, it should not happen and it happens in quite significant numbers too.

Why you have such a deep hatred for Sony is beyond me, why you then bought a PS4 is also beyond me.

It's logical and even coherent to say one may hate Sony but in some way like some of the exclusives on their platform. I don't like Sony because they're over hyped.

Look at Microsoft and their Xbox 360's failure rate...now that was a poor product with almost every single launch unit failing.

Yeah but that's MS.... they churn out garbage look at many of the Windows versions.

So actually you just hate consoles?

I've had a PS2 for many years, still have a PS3 and I've had a PS4 since launch. Never any issues.

I have had three Xbox 360's though.

My Sega Dreamcast lasted about three months before it blew up.

I've no Sony fan boy. I've never had a Sony TV, but recently had my Samsung TV replaced under warranty after three years.

Had plenty of hard drives and motherboards fail over the years.

It's electronics. It doesn't last and is mass produced so failures are a given.

Check your expectation.

I've had many Sony products over the years:

Walkman
car sound system
PS2
Sony CRT TV
Sony LCD TV

I've never experience one problem in 30 years.

I had a Sony Ericsson phone back in the day until my bro tossed in the sea while I was in Tokyo (no irony intended). The sea was too strong... Fuxor Sony! ;) /insert drunk posting disclaimer here

So actually you just hate consoles?

No. Where did you get this?

I've had a PS2 for many years, still have a PS3 and I've had a PS4 since launch. Never any issues.

Good for you. I've had two PS2s, a PS3, a Vita and an XBOX360 and no failures. A PS4 died just one week in.

I have had three Xbox 360's though.

My Sega Dreamcast lasted about three months before it blew up.

Sucks.

I've no Sony fan boy. I've never had a Sony TV, but recently had my Samsung TV replaced under warranty after three years.

You're no Sony fanboy. Good for you. Why is this relevant? There are many people who are Sony fanboys. There are more Sony fanboys then Sharp, Hitachi, NEC, Panasonic, etc fanboys yet in my experience that's largely because of the hype and advertising and perhaps lesser well known brand promotion of these largely Japan only companies. I own(ed) multiple products from these and Sony is the one which for me has not lived up to the hype.

Had plenty of hard drives and motherboards fail over the years.

I've had a fair share of Sony products fail, over other manufacturers. Given the hyped up image, it's part of the reason why I don't like Sony.

It's electronics. It doesn't last and is mass produced so failures are a given.

Non mass produced products can also fail. Non electronic goods also fail. What's your point?

Check your expectation.

Check your moralising and logic.

Yes of course that's a good analogy.

Thank you. You offer a good and insightful point. I thought they had already worked out the kinks and given that a console is largely a kids' gaming device, it should be able to take a few knocks... not that there were any... but it should not just fail so quickly. After all failures also mean lost sales in games. A console which is being repaired is not being used to purchase new games or buy DLCs from Sony's exclusive store.

Yes of course that's a good analogy.

My point is I've not owned many products from Sony, except for this one, and received tremendous service despite eventual waning of sound quality. If my bro hadn't thrown it in the sea it would perhaps still be working.

I think you will receive better responses from people in the z2 and z3 threads since they are more active. This thread is quite onesided and you have not convinced anybody here despite this

No, I owned Sony products which despite the hype were inferior to other brands. It's like owning BMW and finding that Toyota outdoes it. Your analogy is very poor to anything this thread was about.

Do you think I care who I convince. I sent the damn thing back for replacement or refund.

Thanks for your concerns though.

And I am saying you are wrong. You are completely alone on this. Which means you are wrong. You can't convince anyone and you are making a fool of yourself. Sony would not be a successful brand if it produced inferior products. One disfunctional game box won't change their pedigree. You have the cat by the tail, and you sound like an ********* flogging your dead horse like this. Get off your high horse, space_chief.

Appeals to popularity are a fallacy my dear boy.

Do you not think that maybe you're a greater fool for suggesting I'm making a fool of myself? ;)

Sony would not be a successful brand if it produced inferior products.

Who said they were inferior --- they're just not as good as they're hyped up to be in general, my personal experience is that the items I bought lasted less than competing Japanese and Asian products.

Besides they're shutting down their laptop, TV etc business because they can't keep up quality and price as compared to the Koreans, Chinese and other Japanese companies. People will still buy as expensive Panasonic devices but Sony...?

Cry me a river.

Get off your high horse Space-Chief and quit having a dissenting opinion with the groupthink of a half dozen fellow fanboys. :)

Jans, what you're doing is quite pathetic. Someone, me, posted a problem I had with a device I bought. Now a compassionate and mature human being would agree or empathise or even post some suggestions or maybe not post at all. Nope, we have instead attacks and BS, about gray products, and other off topic rubbish. It's as if you have a personal reason to defend Sony products and you're hung up. :) I think that's pretty strange.

You know I don't go into the forums to search for peoples' complaints and then go and convince them how stupid they are because my experience is great with said products. But hey maybe that floats your boat. If it gives you meaning in life, by all means unload all your wisdom here.... then send me a cheque for the psychotherapy session... or maybe I'll do it pro bono. :)

You have done nothing but broadcast your opinion and have not achieved anything with this thread. When I see people rubbishing great brands without the obligatory annotations (ie Wikipedia style), I have to point out when their experience is not matched by other people.

I will give you my opinion. I have never owned a gaming console. I think they are mediocre, cheaply produced, suffer from a constipated profit model, and I don't like spending so much on a product I can build and maintain myself. Sony is probably a company that would prefer it was not possible to compete so easily with them, since their only recourse is fancy marketing and exclusivity.

That said, I am not in the habit of kicking an enemy when they're down. I am happy for Sony that they may turn around their gaming division and their entire enterprise with this product. So i will not join you in an acapello of misplaced spite in some vain attempt at retribution. Sony is a massive company and the two of us do not register on their radar. If you just think pc is better than ps like I do then I'll sing a lot but have some class or I'll show you the floor.

I'm my own source. "Great brands" --- oh my getting religious here? Fanboi... fanboi... fanboi. :) I see it hurts your feelings.... how dare someone not find what I was told to find great, great.

Well you said it. Hype.

No, except for kicking a real person who's suffered a h/w failure - you're ok to kick someone when they're down, just not a soulless corporation. :)

Of course Sony is a massive company. Of course corporates don't care what people say in forums. Unless huge numbers say it or massive class action suits are filed or they lose market share enough to rattle investors. Man, you're gonna explain the obvious here?

PC and Console: I don't care either way. I own Macs mainly and my PCs are older and underpowered. Besides I prefer games which don't appear in PC format. Had they appeared in PC format, maybe I'd upgrade a PC or something.
