PS5

Spec wise Sony are doing the same as they did for the PS4 pro. Having sworn not to get one last gen I ended up getting one on special and enjoyed the little bump that came with it so for me the offset was worth it.

What it means for gamers is that frame limited games may receive a bump from 30 to 60fps and perhaps others a bump to 8k res. Don’t expect more and don’t upgrade if you don’t see yourself benefitting from the bump.

I think this is refresh will do more for 60fps titles that need a graphics bump. It's a fairly big GPU upgrade and only a tiny CPU upgrade. But in the end, the list of games that only run 30fps is miniscule.

I'm excited in any event, PSSR upscaling could be a great addition even if it doesn't match the latest DLSS. If we get 1440p@60 instead of 1080p for titles like HD2 it will already be worth it in my opinion.

More on PSSR:

Sony says that PSSR has a 250MB memory footprint, but interestingly, developer disclosures reveal that the technique can be backported to any existing PlayStation game. This is at odds with 'back compat plus' features bolted on to PS4 games running on PS5, which required games to run on modern development environments (SDKs). This could be of crucial importance in upgrading existing PS5 games that suffer from image quality problems - and we're seeing a lot of those thanks to low internal resolutions and FSR2 upscaling. The Pro could deliver vastly improved results via its extra GPU power and PSSR upscaling.

Is the Explorer tab new or is it a US only thing cause I saw this over at Mystic and don't have that tab.

Have PS+ Extra, PS Store and then list of games I played.... no explorer icon, and my PS5 open with last game I played.

It's also a Beta feature, maybe you have to be invited to join it.

The new one yes, but Ryan clearly states that it changed from how it looked previously, ie: he had the tab before but it now has a new useful look, so must be US only :(

PlayStation 5 Pro Zen 2 CPU Will Be Denser Than Base Model’s; Spectral Super Resolution Is Not a Fork of FSR 4

While the PlayStation 5 Pro CPU is said to offer minimal improvements over the base model, it could bring more enhancements than anticipated.

In a new video shared this week, Moore's Law is Dead, who revealed additional information on the yet-to-be-revealed mid-generation refresh console, provided some small new updates on the system as well as on the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaler. According to the leaker, the console's Zen 2 CPU will be a 4nm CPU, which will be denser and potentially provide additional improvements over the base model's processor, such as reduced power consumption, better cost efficiency, and smaller form factor. As such, the system could also be smaller than the base model and the "Slim" revision launched last year. Speaking about the system's price, Moore's Law is Dead revealed that the system could fit in the 500$ price tag if Sony wants to.

As mentioned above, the leaker also provided some new information on the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscale, which will debut with the PlayStation 5 Pro. Apparently, PSSR is not a fork of the upcoming AMD FSR 4 upscaler and has been completely developed by Sony. As such, it will be very interesting to see if it will be a much better solution compared to AMD's upscaler, especially on consoles where the superior NVIDIA DLSS is not available.

PlayStation 5 Pro Exclusive Display Mode Will Combine Upscaling to 4K, Stable 60 FPS and Ray Tracing; 28% Faster RAM, 45% Faster GPU Confirmed

To receive a PlayStation 5 Pro label called Trinity Enhanced, games must feature a Pro-exclusive display mode that will deliver 4K resolution and costant 60 frames per second.

According to a new report from Insider Gaming, the Pro Enhanced label will come back from the PlayStation 4 Pro days to indicate games that take full advantage of the system's power. In the case of the PlayStation 5 Pro, the label will be granted to games featuring a Pro-exclusive display mode that will combine PSSR to upscale to 4K resolution, constant 60 frames per second, and additional or enhanced ray tracing effects. This will be made possible thanks to faster RAM (28%) and faster GPU (45%) over the base model. Combined, the faster RAM and GPU will make the Pro 45% faster than the base model, with double the rendering speed.

The PlayStation 5 Pro will also get a CPU improvement, although it won't be as big as the RAM and GPU enhancements. Still, there's some for some noticeable improvements, as the console's Zen 2 CPU will be denser and thus offer reduced power consumption, better cost efficiency, and smaller form factor.

I see the "Slim" models officially dropped over at Koodoo

Very tempted to sell my currnet Digital Edition and replace with a slim....

SA prices are crazy man, this is R10800 in UK and regularly goes on sale for R9500 ://

Why the swap though?

Why the swap though?

2 Reasons.

A) My current one is digital edition and B) has the rest bug, where it crash when I use rest mode. Needs Safe mode boot to work properly after rest mode crash.

Sadly its a "grey import" so could not do a warranty swap out as It was bought in New Zealand, so a tad hesitant to buy again from another country.

Edit: 3rd reason is cause its smaller so might fit under the TV.
So yeah, very tempted.
