As said subsequent, Sony still have to pay for such an arrangement. However, it is indeed likely a strategic move - becomes "free" on PSN Extra at the same time it becomes available for purchase on other platforms. Smart move.

Same, AND it did help with the stick drift issue I have been having. not a complete fix, but at least it is only the left stick now

Not for it's first 2 years, but it got the iconic dual shock look in 1997, but nope don't ever remember any drift on the sticks until the PS3, the 360 never had drift.

Wait, are the sticks only supposed to last 300 hours?Most games did not support the sticks so even if it came out later, it still would have taken a long time to clock the supposed 300 hours
